Advisor - Tulum: Mexico’s Undiscovered Beauty Is Within Reach
Curator’s statement

Tulum is a truly special place to visit, a perfect blend of stunning beaches and vibrant local culture. The white sand and turquoise waters create an unforgettable backdrop, while the neighborhood of La Veleta offers a more authentic, laid-back experience beyond the tourist hot spots. Incredible local restaurants like El Agavero serve up amazing flavors, and spots like Nimeno Bakery offer pastries that make you want to linger just a little longer. Whether it’s the natural beauty or the incredible food scene, Tulum makes every moment feel like the perfect escape.

Things to do in Tulum

Beach clubs

Spending the day at a beach club is a fantastic way to enjoy the Caribbean Sea while in Tulum. With many options available, you're sure to find the perfect vibe to suit your preference. If you’re not staying right by the beach, consider renting a scooter — it's one of the best ways to get around the area and is a lot of fun. There are plenty of scooter rental options available, and if scooters aren't your style, you can also rent a four-wheeler!

Here are some great beach clubs that will surely match your vibe:

  • Coco Unlimited: A great spot to enjoy fun in the sun.

  • Taboo: A lively party destination where you can see and be seen.

  • Ziggy’s Beach Club: Perfect for those who want to lounge on a sunbed, read a book and have delicious food and drinks brought right to you.

Cenotes

Visit a cenote and swim or snorkel in some of the clearest waters. There are numerous cenotes available for your enjoyment, but here are two of my top picks:

  • Casa Manati is clear and deep, where you can see scuba divers practicing their dives as well as snorkelers enjoying this beautiful cenote.

  • Casa Corazón del Paraíso is a popular cenote that features picnic tables and a snack bar.

Tulum Mayan ruins

Take a few hours to explore the ancient Mayan ruins located on the Caribbean beach. A visit to the ruins can be done guided or unguided, but I suggest paying for a guided tour and learning about this rich ancient culture.

Places to eat & drink in Tulum

El Agavero - Unique food that pays tribute to its culture. Amazing alcoholic and alcohol-free drinks that are both tasty to sip and stunning to look at.

The OG - The OG offers a contemporary Mexican dining experience that harmoniously blends land, fire and water through its use of fresh, locally sourced ingredients, wood-fired cooking techniques and a focus on seafood dishes.

ARCA - If you are ready to have not just a meal but an experience, the ARCA is your place. The care given to each ingredient as well as the atmosphere is unsurpassed. There is a reason it has a Michelin star.

Hartwood - Hartwood is renowned for its sustainable approach to cooking, utilizing solar power and wood-fire ovens. The menu changes daily, reflecting the freshest local ingredients, and features dishes like grilled octopus and roasted beet salad.

La Pebeta - A casual Argentinian eatery, La Pebeta is perfect for breakfast and brunch, serving a mix of Western plates and traditional South American staples.

Need to know

Tulum is a great destination for groups or couples and provides a variety of experiences. Whether you want to stick to the beach or explore the cenotes, your only disappointment will be not having enough time.
