Advisor - Girls' Trip to Charleston
Curator’s statement

I went on my first girls’ trip to the Carolinas. I had heard about the state’s rich history, but experiencing it firsthand was truly special. The architecture of the churches, the handprints on bricks laid by enslaved people, and the vibrancy of King Street all left a lasting impression on me. We stayed at the Hyatt House Charleston, which was within walking distance of King Street and many local restaurants. However, we discovered our favorite spot a bit further into town. We visited Prohibition, known for its Sunday Brunch featuring live music. The Southern cuisine was thoughtfully prepared, and we enjoyed the sounds of Bluegrass while we dined.

Places to eat & drink in Charleston

  • Poogan’s Porch: This charming estate that has been converted into a restaurant was one of the highlights of our trip. The food was smoked to perfection, featuring all the Southern spices one would expect. Although the restaurant served hamburgers, ribs, and collard greens as everyday fare, each bite felt like a delicacy that everyone should experience.

  • Prohibition: This restaurant offers a luxurious atmosphere while still providing a down-home experience. We enjoyed Sunday brunch accompanied by live bluegrass music that reminded us of Johnny Cash and Darius Rucker. The poached eggs and buttermilk biscuits tasted just as we had expected. After our meal, we headed to the back porch, where we sipped mimosas while soaking up the morning sun.

  • Locals Sushi & Sports Pub: The pub had a welcoming atmosphere that felt familiar. With the sports playing on the TV and the bar in sight, it created a comfortable and relaxed vibe. The happy hour made the few-mile drive outside of town worthwhile, and the sushi was exceptional.

  • Harbinger Café & Bakery: Cute and cozy bakery with delicious coffee and sweet treats. It’s a great way to start your day before shopping on King Street.

  • Azur: Enjoy fine dining accompanied by an excellent wine selection. This is an ideal spot for a date night or to pamper your girlfriends with a special treat.
