Curator’s statement
From the restored Great Hall to the legendary Warm Springs Pools, everything about this place feels both grand and genuinely welcoming. Day 1: Arrival & Southern hospitality
Check in and head straight to the Afternoon Social Hour to enjoy iced tea and seasonal treats from the pastry chef—a tradition since the 18th century. Before dinner, challenge your group to corn hole, croquet, or badminton on the lush resort lawns. Famous for its brick-oven pizzas and decadent milkshakes, Woody's is the perfect relaxed dinner spot to start your trip. Then, relax in the historic indoor cinema for a nightly movie screening in Theater 1923, complete with complimentary popcorn.
Day 2: Springs & serenity
Take the resort shuttle to the recently restored Ladies’ and Gentlemen’s Bathhouses. Soak in the naturally 98-degree mineral waters that once hosted Thomas Jefferson. Then, enjoy lunch at Jefferson’s Taproom with regionally inspired pub fare like the signature burgers or fresh salads. Head back to the resort to join the Homestead Sommelier for a specialized tasting featuring California wines in the Tasting Parlor (available Saturdays in August). Then, end the night in the American Audubon Dining Room and experience an elegant dinner with live music and dancing. Note: Formal dress code applies for dinner here, so pack appropriately!
Day 3: Water & wilderness
Embark on a guided hike to Cascades Gorge with a naturalist to see 13 waterfalls hidden within the Allegheny Mountains. Then, cool down at the two-acre Allegheny Springs Water Park; highlights include two 100-foot waterslides, a lazy river, a family pool, and a sandy beach area. Back at the resort, test your aim at the resort’s shooting range (choose between archery or axe throwing), featuring stationary targets and expert instructors. Enjoy high-end farm-to-table cuisine on the patio of Jefferson's Restaurant next to the outdoor fire pit.
Day 4: Peak adventures
Tee off at The Old Course, home to the nation's oldest first tee in continuous use, or the top-ranked Cascades Course. Then, for a thrill, take a canopy tour with Ridge Runner Zip Tours over the mountains for panoramic views of the Virginia countryside. In the afternoon, board a tractor-driven "S'mores Express" wagon for a scenic ride to the Equestrian Center for a bonfire and the ideal afternoon snack: traditional s'mores. End your final day with dinner at Kober's at The Mountain Lodge—a cozy, relaxed restaurant specializing in Southern barbecue favorites.
Need to know
Hot Springs is pretty remote—that's part of the charm—but plan accordingly. It's about three to four hours from D.C. and roughly four hours from Charlotte. A car is a must.
