Advisor - 7-Day Romantic Getaway through the Canadian Rockies
Curator’s statement

When I think about Rocky Mountaineer train vacations, I think about how special, effortless, and magical everything happens. Sitting back in a glass-domed seat, sipping a glass of wine, and watching mountains, turquoise lakes, cascading waterfalls, and wildlife unfold right outside the window, I can appreciate how special this part of the world is. The hosts tell stories that make the Rockies come alive, and the meals are so beautifully prepared it feels like dining in a fine restaurant that just happens to be moving through the wilderness. It isn’t just a train ride—it’s the perfect blend of luxury, adventure, and romance all in one unforgettable journey. Each stop along the route has its own beauty and charm. Guests can canoe on serene lakes, hike to hidden tea houses, and discover quiet spots most people never see. This is a once-in-a-lifetime trip where luxury, adventure, and incredible scenery all come together perfectly.

Day 1: Arrive in Vancouver

Spend a night in Vancouver before beginning your train journey the following day.

Day 2: Vancouver to Kamploops

The journey begins with lush coastal rainforests and the rushing waters of the Fraser River before giving way to the dramatic Fraser Canyon and the roar of Hell’s Gate. In the afternoon, the scenery shifts to wide-open ranches and desert-like landscapes.

All along the way, you are treated to gourmet meals, endless views, and stories that make you feel connected to the land.

Enjoy the GoldLeaf outdoor platform and enjoy the fresh Canadian air as the views begin to take shape

Spend the night in Kamloops. Enjoy a quiet dinner, sample local beers, and stroll along the river paths.

Day 3: Kamloops to Jasper

Wildlife is everywhere. Bears, elk, eagles, you see it all from the huge dome windows. Meals on board feel like dining in a gourmet restaurant, with fresh Canadian flavors and wine. Enjoy your meals while the glaciers and waterfalls are just outside your window.

Enjoy your evening in Jasper with stargazing and dinner at the Fairmont Jasper Park Lodge

Day 4: A free day in Jasper

Immerse yourself in the natural beauty and charm of Jasper's stunning landscapes and iconic landmarks. Take a wildlife tour or boat cruise on the brilliant turquoise waters of Lake for a deeper Canadian experience.

Day 5: Jasper to Banff

As you travel to Banff along scenic Icefields Parkway, you will enjoy lunch and a ride on an Ice Explorer to Travel onto the glacier in the comfort of large "snowcoaches" or you can simply marvel at them from the roadside. Spend two nights at Fairmont Banff Springs

Day 6: Lake Louise & spa

Travel to Lake Louise in the morning to enjoy turquoise waters before the crowds arrive. Visit Lake Agnes Tea House for their homemade scones, sandwiches, and tea as you sit by the rustic fireplace or on the deck. Head back to Banff and enjoy the afternoon at the hotel spa or Banff Upper Springs to unwind before heading back home.

Day 7: Banff to Calgary

Travel a short distance from Banff to Calgary for your flight home.

Need to know

Contact me to book this once-in-a-lifetime rail and land journey.

You get the option of Silver or Gold Leaf Service. Choose Gold Leaf, if possible. The panoramic glass-domed coaches include an outdoor platform and gourmet dining area are worth the upgrade.

Sit on the right side of the train leaving Vancouver—you’ll get better views of rivers, canyons, and mountains (although both sides are beautiful).

Dress in layers. The train temperature is comfortable, but the outdoor viewing platform can be chilly, even in summer.

Don’t overpack your carry-on luggage. Your checked luggage is delivered to your hotel room each night so you only need essentials onboard—camera, sweater, sunscreen, and medications on board.

Be camera ready. Wildlife sightings such as bears, elk, and eagles move quickly.

Stay an extra night in Vancouver or Calgary to enjoy more time in these cities.

The best time to take this journey is from May to early October.

  • May is best for snow peaks and fewer crowds.

  • June–September has the warmest weather.

  • October is less crowded and leaves are beginning to change colors.

Traveling from Vancouver to Banff is my preferred route since the scenery builds dramatically as you head east, but Banff to Vancouver is an alternative and beautiful route as well.
