Advisor - 48 Hours in Reykjavik
Curator’s statement

Reykjavik is the perfect destination to explore pre- or post-cruise, or as a stopping point before mainland Europe. In just a day, you can experience a very walkable Reykjavik, lagoons, geysers, waterfalls, and top-notch dining. In addition, Iceland has been ranked as one of the world’s most peaceful destinations for over two decades. For nature lovers, Iceland is the ultimate bucket-list trip.

Things to do in Reykjavik

Continental divide at Thingvellir National Park

  • The Sky Lagoon: Minutes from Reykjavik, I recommend trying the seven-step bathing ritual. This lagoon is more accessible and less crowded than the popular Blue Lagoon.

  • A Golden Circle tour: Whether you rent a car or take a guided tour, this is an absolute must to get the most out of a short stay. At approximately 11 hours, you will see geysers, Gullfoss waterfall, Thingvellir National Park, and the Blue Lagoon.

  • Hallgrimskirkja Church: All around Reykjavik, this beautiful church can be spotted and should be seen.

  • Perlan: This unique building that houses the museum provides a good learning experience on Icelandic nature.

  • Iceland’s South Coast: Another all-day excursion providing sights to what Iceland has to offer. This is the second-most visited area, including several waterfalls, Black Sand Beach with their stunning basalt columns, and Sólheimajökull Glacier.

Places to eat & drink in Reykjavik

The desserts at Fjallkonan are not to be skipped!

  • The Laundromat Cafe: This was our go-to breakfast spot! Such a unique spot with lots to look at. FYI—you can actually do laundry while eating breakfast or lunch.

  • Fjalkonan: Meaning “Lady of the Mountain,” is my number one choice! This is one of the best restaurants I have ever eaten at. The desserts are a must!

  • Kol Restaurant: Great atmosphere offering phenomenal food and a weekend brunch. Provides an Icelandic touch with some international flair.

  • Apotek Restaurant: While walking around exploring some of the hotels, we stopped in and enjoyed the bright environment and some light bites.

Need to know

I highly recommend packing a rain jacket, as it often is overcast with light rain.
