Curator’s statement
Victoria is a beautiful city that somehow manages to combine the rugged natural beauty of British Columbia with the charm of a European city. While it’s a lovely place for a relaxing weekend getaway, it’s also a great day trip from the Vancouver area. This guide will give you everything you need to make your limited time in the city memorable.

Things to do in Victoria, British Columbia

Enjoy a beautiful ferry ride: Take a morning ferry to Swartz Bay, and keep an eye out for wildlife in the water. If you take your return trip around sunset, get out your camera for some gorgeous photo opportunities.
Stroll around James Bay: Take in views of the water and Olympic mountains by walking the perimeter of the James Bay Peninsula. Check out the floating buildings of Fisherman’s Wharf and the First Nations murals on the breakwater.
Enjoy the buildings on Government Street: The Legislative Assembly and Fairmont Empress are both beautiful buildings that will make you feel like you've been transported to Europe.
Visit Canada's oldest Chinatown: Victoria's Chinatown is just as charming as the rest of the city, with narrow streets lined with lanterns like Fan Tan alley.
Explore the Butchart Gardens: If you have a car, these beautiful gardens are about a half-hour drive from the city.
Day trips
The water around Victoria is known for some of the best whale watching in the world, particularly for orcas. If you’re visiting in the summer and have more than just a day in the city, try a whale watching tour. These usually last 3–4 hours, and I would be happy to book one for you with one of Fora’s preferred partners!
