Curator’s statement
I had the great privilege of living in New Orleans for over ten years. It’s one of my favorite cities, and I will always consider it “home.” New Orleans is a vibrant, soulful place full of history, culture, art, music and the best food that you will ever eat. But the city’s greatest asset is its people: friendly, creative and resilient. They welcome and embrace you as their own. This is a guide to experiencing New Orleans food and drinks like a local, along with some recommended activities.

Things to do in New Orleans

City Park & Botanical Garden: City Park is a 1,300-acre park that has several attractions, including some for children. I particularly love visiting the botanical garden, which is home to over 2,000 species of plants.
Audubon Zoo, Aquarium, Insectarium: The Audubon Nature Institute offers several dynamic experiences. This includes a world-class zoo, aquarium and insectarium.
New Orleans Jazz Museum: New Orleans is the birthplace of jazz. Visit this museum to learn all about it.
Preservation Hall: If you want to experience live jazz, this is the place to go. Buy tickets in advance online.
StudioBE: StudioBE was established by New Orleans artist BMike Odums. A powerful and thought-provoking gallery. It's a must-see for art lovers.
Magazine Street: Located uptown, Magazine St. is perfect for strolling, people-watching and popping into local boutiques and restaurants.
Mardi Gras World: Touring Mardi Gras World provides you with a behind-the-scenes look into all of the hard work and planning that goes into creating New Orleans’ iconic parade floats.
Places to eat & drink in New Orleans

Drago’s: Drago’s is where the locals go for charbroiled oysters. They are absolutely the best in town.
Vyoone’s: French cuisine with a New Orleans flare. The bread pudding is a must-have.
JusTini’s: Located in the Bywater, this is the perfect brunch or happy hour spot with tasty food and trendy cocktails.
Dooky Chase’s: An iconic and historic civil rights landmark. Serving authentic New Orleans Creole cuisine since 1941.
Commander’s Palace: Where locals go to celebrate special occasions. The weekend jazz brunch is a dining experience like no other. Reservations required.
High Hat Cafe: Uptown in the Freret neighborhood, a casual cafe serving delicious New Orleans staples. Try the BBQ shrimp and fried catfish.
Cure: My favorite uptown bar, whether you have a classic cocktail or a creative cocktail, you cannot go wrong. I love their "champagne cocktail."
