Advisor - A Long Weekend in Alaska: A 3-Day Introduction to the Last Frontier
Curator’s statement

In a surprising twist for many of us East Coasters, Alaska has frequent award flight availability. One May, I received a text asking how many Delta miles I had — three days later, I was in Alaska for a long weekend. While a trip like this barely scratches the surface of this fantastic state, it is more accessible than one may think.

Day 1: Arrive in Anchorage!

Spend the afternoon learning about the state's history and culture at the Anchorage Museum. Then, walk around the city, taking in the stunning mountain views. Finally, head to the rooftop deck of 49th State Brewing for craft beer and dinner.

Day 2: Town of Whittier

Today, travel to the town of Whittier, which went viral for having one building that essentially houses the entire community. The easiest way to get there is by renting a car, but buses and trains are also available. If you do drive, look for mountain goats hopping up the hill. Be prepared to wait a few minutes to be allowed through the one-way tunnel to get to the town.

Once there, take a guided kayak tour of the sound. During this tour, I was fortunate enough to see a whale come up beside us and watch bald eagles feed!

You've earned your dinner after that paddle. Enjoy a nice meal back in Anchorage at Crush Wine Bistro & Cellar.

If you have time or are visiting during extended daylight hours, take a post-dinner stroll along the coastal trail.

Day 3: Tour Matanuska Glacier

Today, hike a glacier, an unforgettable experience limited to very few places in the world. I took a tour to Matanuska Glacier with Salmon Berry Travel & Tours, a women-owned company focused on sustainability. This all-day tour included scenic stops in the breathtaking countryside, a guided hike on the glacier and lunch.

Tonight, grab a casual bite at Moose's Tooth Pub & Pizzeria.
