Curator’s statement

Rome is one of my favorite cities on earth. Where else can you be in the middle of a city and when you turn a corner you see an ancient ruin that is thousands of years old? Rich in history and beauty, Rome is one of those cities you will never forget. My personal favorite neighborhood is Via Veneto. Not far from the Spanish Steps, Via Veneto oozes luxury. There are amazing five star hotels every few steps. Lined with trees and cafes, there is much to see and do and this is a wonderful neighborhood to make your base. In just a few days you can get a feel for everything Rome has to offer and I am certain you will want to return.

Things to do in Rome

Colosseum in Rome during the morning blue hour with no people.

A great way to see the city is on a golf cart tour. There are lots of options for this and many are near the Colosseum. You can choose half day or full day tours and the guides are very knowledgeable.

There are amazing food tours, both private and small group, that help you get a feel and a taste for the foods that make Rome famous.

Cooking classes are a great way to spend an evening. Not only will you cook some amazing pastas, you will get to eat what you cook.

Villa Borghese gardens are so beautiful and romantic and a perfect place for a romantic stroll.

The Pantheon isn't open at night but boy is it worth visiting in the evening. Crowds are gone and it is lit up and beautiful. Perfect for photos!

Go to vintage shops in Rome. Trastevere has amazing vintage shops and there are an array of shops to choose from with Twice Vintage being just one of them.

The most famous street for designer shopping in Rome is Via dei Condotti. It is located very close to the Spanish Steps. You can find the most expensive designer stores like Gucci, YSL and so many more. When you buy something keep your receipt because you can get a VAT refund at the airport.

Revolution Vintage is my favorite place for designer handbags at very fair prices.

Campo de Fiori is a piazza in the middle of Rome's hustle and bustle! It is fun, exciting and there are lots of amazing restaurants and bars.

Trastevere is a neighborhood in Rome that has amazing food and it is a place with fewer tourists which provides a much more authentic experience. Young crowds buzz in the piazza and drink their cocktails while waiting for perhaps a dinner reservation or evening plans.

Testaccio is hip and fun and, in my opinion, the neighborhood with the best food.

Day Trips:

Pompei, Amalfi Coast - Day trips are offered if you are staying in Rome. You can also make your own day trip and take a less than 2 hour fast train from Rome Termini to Napoli Centrale

Florence - You can easily hop on the train and be in Florence in just a short time. There are many tours you can do that show you all that Florence has to offer. There are even Tuscan wine dinners and lunches that can be planned. There are also, of course, many vineyards to visit throughout Tuscany.

Orvieto - Orvieto is an ancient small town definitely worth seeing and it is a short train ride away.

There are trains that go just about anywhere in Italy from Rome and that is a huge advantage.

Places to eat & drink in Rome

Aroma is an Italian restaurant with a tasting menu of refined pasta, meat & fish dishes, plus a view of the Colosseum.

In Via Veneto there are no shortages of rooftop bars to grab a cocktail before or after dinner. Take in the views, relax and enjoy. Some of my favorites are:

Another bar/lounge/restaurant on Via Veneto is Harry's Bar. It has an old fashioned, classic Rome vibe and the drinks are great both before and after dinner.

Dining - where do I start? Rome has some of my most favorite pastas in Italy. Cacio e pepe, carbonara and amatraciana are the main most famous pastas in the Lazio region. Some of my favorite stops are:

Dal Bolognese This restaurant is in the piazza del popolo

Flavio Al Velavevodetto is probably my most favorite in Rome and I go for at least one meal every trip. There are very few tourists in this restaurant and the food is about as authentic and delicious as you can get. Families, couples, friends all flock this spot for mostly late night dinners.(Italians don't eat early).

Pizzeria ai Marmi - This restaurant in Trastevere does not take reservations. Most of the time there is a line to get in. But it is worth the wait! Pizza, arancini, beer and a few other delicious roman treats that will have your mouth watering. This is a great choice for a chill, informal night. They are not open for lunch.

Taverna Trilussa - This is a fantastic and very famous restaurant in Trastevere. It has been around for many, many years. The owners are lovely. The only problem is that it is tough to get a reservation here. I will be able to help you with how to do that!

Antica Pesa - A little more high end, but really fabulous. They have a location in Brooklyn as well as Rome. Tough reservation to get so you need to book ahead. this would be your michelin star stop in Rome. It is amazing but not overly pretentious.
