Things to do in Switzerland

Mountain line with grass and trees

Guided hiking trips

Experienced guides can take you on single or multi-day hikes through spectacular scenery. Some of my recommended hiking spots include around Lauterbrunnen. A local guide can be sure you experience some hidden gems and can get you off the beaten track.

Rail adventures

Switzerland is well known for their scenic rail journeys. From just a couple of hours to multi-day trips, I can create a bespoke itinerary to fit your schedule and interests. Pro tip - a brilliant new train journey between Montreux and Interlaken recently opened, via the luxury resort area of Gstaad. It's a new must-do!

Glacier Express Excellence Class

This rail journey is in a category all its own! The legendary Glacier Express is probably the most scenic of all the Swiss rail journeys, going from Zermatt to St Moritz over the course of one day. In the new Excellence Class you will be treated to guaranteed window seating, panoramic views as well as a personal concierge, a regional 5-course menu, champagne, tea time, luggage handling and much more. This exclusive experience is limited to just a small number of passengers on each trip.

E-bike tour - Lucerne

The Swiss Knife Valley is ideal for touring via e-bike with a private guide. Easy to combine with a boat trip on Lake Lucerne to make a wonderful day outdoors.

Swimming in Lake Lucerne

Locals love to take a dip in beautiful Lake Lucerne! There are numerous access points, many of which are accessible via public transportation. Lido Weggis is a favorite — it's been operating for over 100 years! The mountain scenery really makes this activity special.

St Moritz private walking tour

St Moritz offers a glorious natural setting and so many first class experiences and accommodations compared to its small size (population only 5,600.) I highly recommend a short private walking tour with a professional guide to learn about the city's interesting history and top attractions. Fun fact: St Moritz has hosted 2 previous Olympic Games!

Jungfraujoch

Jungfraujoch is a mountaintop destination between two high peaks in the Bernese Alps. You can soak in fantastic natural views of this glacial area year round. The new Eiger Express cable car connects to the railway to take you up to Europe's highest railway station.

Places to eat & drink in Switzerland

Raclette dish in Switzerland.

Food experiences that support local producers and food artisans allow you to sample the freshest ingredients while reducing your environmental footprint. Here are some of my favorite recommendations that immerse you in Swiss culture and cuisine while putting sustainability at the forefront.

Eat With - A network of local hosts, chefs and food experts who will personally host you for a meal, take you on a special tour to experience local foods, or teach you culinary techniques from the local area. I can help you connect with a hyper-local food experience that fits your interests via Eat With.

Damien Germanier - Sion - Super innovative Michelin-star restaurant that features almost exclusively Swiss ingredients. A unique highlight is a vegetarian tasting menu. Offers half-day cooking classes with the chef!

Stadtkäserei & Restaurant - Zurich - Unique urban cheese maker and restaurant that also offers small group workshops and cozy private dinners showcasing local food products.

Hiltl - Claims to be the oldest vegetarian restaurant in the world! Over 100 vegan and vegetarian dishes. Casual buffet or sit down options. Plus a vegetarian butcher and confectionery. Multiple locations around Zurich including outdoor terrace dining.

Brasserie Konrad - Casual and cozy Swiss cuisine with a Nordic flare in the central Alpine town of Engelberg. Tucked into a charming ski lodge. The chefs are passionate about local produce.

Wine tours and tastings - Lausanne region - This area of Switzerland is known for their excellent wines, many of which are unavailable in the US. Many producers open their doors to private or small group tours. Easy to combine with outdoor activities on Lake Leman (Geneva).

Restaurant Buech - Elegant "country tavern" restaurant more than 100 years old, overlooking Lake Zurich, nestled in an old vineyard. Part of a network of 5-star establishments with affiliated local farms. I can arrange boat transportation direct from the luxurious Storchen hotel in Zurich.
