Advisor - A Resident’s Guide to Squamish: Pet-Friendly Picks and More
Curator’s statement

Squamish is special to me because I’ve been living here since January 2023. It’s a place where I’ve connected with people and animals from all over the world, nestled between the sea and the sky. With its great proximity to Downtown Vancouver, Horseshoe Bay and Whistler, it is a great destination for a day trip or long weekend.

Things to do in Squamish

Rose Park

This peaceful walking and biking trail along the water and under the trees is perfect for a leisurely stroll with dogs. The grassy areas make it an ideal place to enjoy a picnic, and the easy access to the Squamish Adventure Centre and Smoke Bluffs Park adds to the charm.

Squamish Estuary Trail

This trail is well-maintained, offers pristine views of The Chief and is flat, making it more accessible for families. In the summer time, many residents avoid this area due to bear activity.

Eagle Run Vista Point

For Virgin River fans, this spot offers stunning views of the Squamish River and mountains while being conveniently located near the Watershed Grill. And, in October–January, you will be able to observe the eagles.

Alice Lake Provincial Park

The trails around Alice Lake are perfect for a leisurely hike with the whole family, including your pets. It’s always a nice place to unwind before heading to a cafe or restaurant to relax.

Brohm Lake

It’s a great spot to hike, sunbathe and go for a swim. This is a popular spot to cool down for locals and visitors alike.

Driving around the Squamish Valley

The Squamish Valley offers a remote feel while being just a short drive from town. We love the scenic drive, and often spot bears (safely from the car)

The Sea to Sky Gondola

While riding the gondola, you will see breathtaking views of the surrounding mountains and Howe Sound. And, you can walk to Shannon Falls within a matter of minutes via the connecting trail by the base.

Sushi Sen

Amazing sushi with standout dishes like the assorted sashimi, sushi pizza and the Saki Strawberry Margarita. A must-visit for sushi lovers.

Haru Fusion Cuisine

A local gem serving mouthwatering Korean kimchi bulgogi, with friendly staff and a great atmosphere for enjoying delicious fusion dishes.

Essence of India

Simply put, this is the best Indian food in town. The dishes are flavorful and never disappoint.

Starbucks (Downtown)

I know, it’s a chain, but this spot is where all the true locals have gathered for years. With a cozy café atmosphere and no drive-thru, dog-friendly outdoor seating, and great views, it’s the perfect stop before exploring downtown. Plus, they offer mobile ordering and reliable WiFi, making it a favorite cafe for digital nomads.

Fergie’s Cafe

Tucked off the beaten path, Fergie’s offers a welcoming spot for a cozy break while enjoying great food.

Backcountry Brewing + Luz Tacos

The perfect pairing: craft beers and delicious tacos in a laid-back setting

Alice + Brohm Ice Cream Co.

Grab some real fruit ice cream to go, or treat your dog to an ice cream cone with a dog-friendly treat at this local favorite.
