Things to do on Hamilton Island

Choose your own adventure

Hamilton Island offers a wide variety of activities to suit every interest and pace. Visitors can hire a buggy to explore the island at their own leisure, take part in hands-on cooking classes, or unleash their creativity in guided art workshops. For wildlife lovers, the island’s park provides unforgettable encounters with dingoes, reptiles, and koalas, along with thrilling crocodile feeding sessions.

If your idea of a perfect day includes lounging poolside with a drink in hand, Hamilton Island has three public pools, each offering a different vibe. The Main Pool is the island’s centerpiece, featuring a spacious lagoon-style design and a swim-up bar that adds a splash of indulgence. The Bougainvillea Pool, tucked behind Catseye Beach, is surrounded by tropical greenery and ideal for a quieter escape. Nearby, the Dolphin Pool offers a peaceful spot to cool off between meals or after a beach walk.

Adventure seekers can dive into water-based experiences like snorkeling rentals or catamaran hire with sailing lessons around Catseye Beach. Along Main Street, you can rent a dinghy and cruise across to nearby islands or board fishing excursions, jet ski tours, jet boat rides, and boat rides. Boating options include scenic trips to Whitehaven Beach, the Whitsundays, or full and half-day tours to Reefworld—a floating pontoon at Hardy Reef. There, guests can snorkel, scuba dive, or view the reef from a glass-bottom boat. For a truly immersive experience, overnight stays on the pontoon offer a rare chance to sleep above the Great Barrier Reef under the stars.

Dent Island is accessible by ferry from Hamilton Island—head across to enjoy a round of golf on the scenic 18-hole course, afterwards treat yourself to a relaxing lunch at the Clubhouse or unwind with a yoga session overlooking the Whitsundays.

Kids can enjoy their own fun at the Clownfish Kids Club, or join the family for outdoor activities like mini golf, go-karting, and quad biking.

Pack a picnic for sunset at One Tree Hill: Gather your favorite snacks, a chilled drink, and a cozy blanket, then make your way to One Tree Hill—Hamilton Island’s iconic sunset lookout. As the sun dips below the horizon, casting golden hues over the Whitsundays, you’ll enjoy panoramic island views and a peaceful, unforgettable moment. It’s the perfect way to end the day with nature’s most spectacular show.

One of the most breathtaking sights I’ve ever seen is Hill Inlet, where swirling sands meet crystal-clear sea in a mesmerizing display of nature’s artistry. If you’ve never witnessed it in person, it’s reason enough to visit the Whitsundays. Standing above the inlet, watching the tide paint shifting patterns across the beach, you realize some places truly defy description—and Hamilton Island puts you right at the doorstep of it all.
