Curator’s statement
Charleston is one of those destinations that instantly charms you—where pastel historic homes, palm-lined streets, and incredible food come together in the most effortless way! It feels equal parts relaxed coastal getaway and luxurious Southern escape, making it perfect for a girls’ trip, romantic weekend, or long relaxed getaway filled with great meals and beautiful walks. From rooftop cocktails and boutique shopping on King Street to beach days on Folly Island and sunset strolls along The Battery, Charleston is a city best experienced at an easy pace. After visiting multiple times, these are the spots I’d recommend again and again—my favorite things to do, where to eat and drink, and the places truly worth adding to your itinerary.

Things to do in Charleston

Shopping at Grit & Grace
To soak in the city’s rich history, book a guided historic walking tour or explore at your own pace with a stroll along the waterfront and The Battery, stopping at iconic sights like the Pineapple Fountain, Rainbow Row’s colorful historic homes, White Point Garden, and views of Charleston Harbor. For a classic Charleston experience, a historic horse-and-carriage tour is another memorable way to see the sights.
One of the best ways to experience the area is by getting out on the water with a boat day, or spending time at the beach—Folly Beach is lively with restaurants and a newly renovated pier, while Sullivan’s Island offers a quieter atmosphere with equally great spots to grab a bite.
For a more relaxed afternoon, enjoy a pool day at Little Palm at The Ryder Hotel, where day passes are available for visitors. Don’t miss wandering through the Charleston City Market to browse local food vendors, art, and handmade goods, and be sure to leave time for shopping throughout the city’s charming historic streets.
Shopping in Charleston is a highlight in itself, with most of the action centered along iconic King Street. You’ll find a mix of fun, recognizable brands like Hill House, Lake, Sézane, Faherty, Anthropologie, Tecovas, YETI, and Altar’d State alongside charming local boutiques. For unique gifts, stop into Mildred Newberry or Rebecca Illustrated, and browse jewelry, clothing, and thoughtful finds at Grit & Grace Studio. Home lovers shouldn’t miss EtuHome for beautiful décor and accessories.
Some of my favorite women’s boutiques include Harvest Moon Home, My Sister’s Cottage, Millie Lynn, and Beau & Ro for stylish pieces you won’t see everywhere. If you’re shopping for little ones, Under the Almond Trees is an amazing baby and kids' store, while Candlefish is a must-stop for incredible candles! Fans of Southern Charm will recognize Sewing Down South, Craig’s pillow shop!
Places to eat & drink in Charleston

Dinner at Saltwater Cowboys
Charleston’s food and drink scene is one of the highlights of any visit, blending classic Southern flavors with trendy, modern spots. Husk delivers elevated Southern cuisine, and Iron Rose offers a more refined dining experience. Seafood lovers shouldn’t miss Fleet Landing Restaurant & Raw Bar, set right on the water, or local favorites like 167 Raw Oyster Bar, The Darling Oyster Bar, and Leon’s, known for its laid-back vibe and great outdoor space.
For brunch, Millers All Day is a must, and Basic Kitchen is perfect when you’re craving something healthy in a cute setting. If you need something quick, Caviar & Bananas is a great market and café for grab-and-go bites. Venture to Shem Creek to hit up one of my favorite lively spots: Saltwater Cowboys right on the water!
For drinks, head to the Citrus Club rooftop at The Dewberry Hotel—a must-visit for cocktails and small plates with beautiful views—or try Felix, a Parisian-inspired restaurant and cocktail bar. By The Way is ideal for late-night dining and drinks, while Republic transitions from relaxed garden cocktails during the day to a fun DJ and nightlife scene after dark.
And of course, no city stay is completely without multiple café stops! Start your mornings at Clerk’s Coffee Company, Sorelle Mercato, or Harken Café for coffee and pastries. The Rise Coffee Bar and The Daily are great casual stops for breakfast and juice, and Welton’s Tiny Bakeshop is perfect for baked treats.
Need to know
I’ve stayed on Folly Island a few times and always love it! It’s an easy and fun day trip from Charleston or a great place to add a few extra nights to stay right by the beach. Think great casual restaurants with live music, swimming, beach walks, fishing, and a lively pier.
