If you have extra days in San Miguel de Allende, consider a day trip to nearby Guanajuato, a UNESCO World Heritage city just and hour and a half away. Guanajuato offers exciting attractions like the Mummy Museum, a funicular ride to the Pipila Monument for stunning views, and a stroll through the colorful Callejón del Beso. Back in San Miguel, explore El Charco del Ingenio botanical garden, go horseback riding with Coyote Canyon Adventures or shop for handmade crafts at the Artisan Market.
Need to know
For special visits, San Miguel shines during Día de los Muertos (October 31 - November 2), with vibrant parades and altars, or during the La Alborada Festival in late September, which features fireworks and music. The city’s rich history is also celebrated during Fiestas Patrias (September 15-16), a lively event that brings the town to life with patriotic parades and festivities. These times of year offer a unique cultural experience perfect for families!
