Curator’s statement

New York is a place where there’s always something incredible to see, do and eat. I love the energy of the city — the hustle and bustle, the endless shopping, and the rich history that surrounds every street corner. Walking through classic sites like Broadway, or standing at Ellis Island, I can’t help but to imagine the stories of those who came before us, hashing their dreams. It’s a city that never slows down, always offering something new to discover.

Things to do in New York City

  • Times Square is always exciting with something new to see every visit. I love the energy, the giant screens, endless shopping and incredible food.

  • I love Broadway for its timeless elegance and the magic of live theater. Seeing a show there stirs emotions, making every performance an unforgettable one. We had popcorn and drinks during the show and caught a later dinner in Times Square after. Broadway is walkable from any hotel in Times Square.

  • The 9/11 memorial/museum is a powerful and emotional tribute, honoring the victims and preserving the memory of that tragic day. It’s a beautiful and humbling experience that leaves a lasting impact. We stood for over an hour just taking it all in.

  • Taking in the city skyline from the top of the Empire State Building is a breathtaking and overwhelming experience. It showcases New York’s iconic beauty from above. There’s so much to see and learn on the way to the top. The Empire State Building and Broadway show could both be easily done in one day, along with some shopping.

  • 9/11 is also near Times Square. This could be paired with a visit to Rockefeller Center, and an NBC tour. Both offer a behind-the-scenes experience at iconic late night and daytime tv shows and even sitting on the Saturday Night Live set.

  • Joe’s Pizza is a perfect pit stop while hustling through the sites of Times Square.

  • Visiting Ellis Island and the Statue of Liberty is an unforgettable experience. Bring history to life and honor the millions who journeyed to America in search of a new beginning. Remember, the ferry is free and buying tickets is unnecessary. Walk right past the people selling tickets and go straight to the line.

  • I would recommend doing the Financial District the same day you do Ellis Island/Statue of Liberty. We took the subway from Times Square to Ellis Island and then walked to the Financial District to see the Iconic Charging Bull, the Library, and had lunch and drinks at The Dead Rabbit.

Places to eat & drink in New York City

  • Serendipity Times Square: This is a great place to stop in during your Times Square adventure. It’s a whimsical, cozy place to escape the noise outside. They have amazing frozen hot chocolate. The menu is full of over-the-top desserts and comfort food. It’s a fun, iconic stop.

  • The Dead Rabbit Pub: I absolutely love The Dead Rabbit Pub in the Financial District. It has an old-school charm with an Irish Pub/craft cocktail twist. The tap room feels authentic and cozy. So many good cocktails here and great food!

  • Broad Nosh Bagels: For bagels, I personally love Broad Nosh Bagels. The bagels are so fresh, so many cream cheese options, and they are quick. I love the bacon, egg and cheese bagel there and also the french onion cream cheese on the everything bagel.

  • Carmines: This is a classic, family-style Italian feast. The portions are huge! It’s a loud and lively environment full of energy. We had the chicken parm and penne alla vodka and they were both rich and flavorful. Service was quick and friendly, even with a packed dining room.

  • Joe’s Pizza: This is an iconic, always busy stop, but it lives up to the hype! It’s an easy-to-grab, true New York-style pizza that you can eat while standing outside between sites.

  • Le Bernardin: This is a true culinary experience. It’s elegant and refined. The seafood is the best here and prepared so creatively. A perfect spot if you want to treat yourself to one of the best meals in the city.

Need to know

If you stay in Times Square, you can do most things just by walking. If you want to get from place to place quicker I do highly recommend the subway. It’s just so much faster and allows you to see so much more in a short amount of time.
