Curator’s statement
There are resorts that *pamper*, and then there are resorts that *transport.* Nestled deep within the Allegheny Mountains and hugged by the George Washington National Forest, The Omni Homestead Resort is the kind of place where you exhale upon arrival—and maybe forget to inhale again because you’re just too busy soaking it all in. On my recent site visit, I found myself cozied up in a spacious executive suite, listening to soft rain fall over the mountains, wondering how I’d ever leave. With a rich 250+-year history, natural mineral springs, and enough activities to fill a month, this isn’t just a hotel stay—it’s a retreat into relaxation, history, and Appalachian beauty.

Things to do

Warm Springs bath house—Thomas Jefferson soaked here!
The Cascades Gorge Hike
An absolute highlight—this guided trail winds past 12 waterfalls, vibrant greenery, and rock formations that have stood for centuries. Breathing that cool mountain air while listening to the rush of falling water was like pure therapy.
Warm springs pools
Dating back to 1761, these naturally heated, mineral-rich pools are part of the region’s legacy. The soaking experience is deeply relaxing, with 12 different minerals that absorb into your skin like an elevated epsom salt bath.
The spa
Surrender to serenity! A full hydrotherapy circuit (think hot/cold rooms, aromatherapy showers, saunas) sets the stage for a world-class massage. Treatments here aren’t just indulgent—they’re healing. Users of the spa also have access to the Serenity Garden, which is a pool and hot tub filled by the same warm springs!
Championship golf
One of the most historically significant golf resorts in the country, and number-one in Virginia, Omni is home to America’s oldest first tee still in continuous use (on a six-hole course). Two top-ranked courses offer sweeping mountain views and a shot at history. Golf legend Sam Snead was born nearby and learned how to play on this course.
Outdoor adventure
You’ll find more activities than you can pack into a weekend:
Horseback riding
Archery and axe-throwing
Trap and skeet shooting
Pickleball and tennis
Life-size chess, croquet, and lawn games
E-biking, and hiking through the forest
This resort has activities to keep everyone in the family engaged!
Places to eat & drink

Beautiful and delicious caprese salad from Jefferson's Restaurant
American Audubon Dining Room
This is the resort’s crown jewel of classic dining—think white tablecloths, live music, and multi-course meals that channel timeless Southern refinement. Open for breakfast, afternoon tea, and elegant dinners, this space feels like it belongs in a bygone era, but the food is deliciously fresh and regionally inspired.
Jefferson’s Restaurant
Elevated yet unfussy, Jefferson’s is where fine dining meets a relaxed vibe. The menu leans heavily on locally sourced meats and seasonal produce, prepared with a modern flair. Perfect for a special night out, and a strong contender for the best steak on property.
Jefferson’s Taproom
Right next door, the Taproom brings things down a notch with pub favorites, a casual setting, and big-screen TVs. Ideal for a laid-back lunch or a low-key dinner with a cold beer or Virginia wine in hand.
Woody’s
This guest-favorite eatery offers comforting Italian-American fare in a casual setting. Craft pizzas, signature sandwiches, and hearty pastas pair perfectly with full bar service. It’s family-friendly, walk-in only, and great for grab-and-go options too.
Pioneer Picnic
Located in the casino building, this fast-casual spot blends local flavors with a nostalgic, picnic-style approach. It’s ideal for families looking for a quick bite between activities—think barbecue, fried chicken, and Southern sides, all in a relaxed setup.
Rubino’s at The Cascades
Tucked away by the golf course, Rubino’s serves up light fare and drinks with panoramic views of the valley. A go-to spot for a relaxing bite after a round of golf or while soaking up the scenery.
Kober’s at the Mountain Lodge
Open during ski season, this lodge-style venue offers bold, smoky barbecue and rustic winter comfort food. Named in honor of a beloved figure in the resort’s history, it’s the perfect place to refuel after snow sports or just cozy up by the fire.
Virginia Wine Experience
Not quite a restaurant, but absolutely worth noting: this on-site tasting room offers curated wine flights, regional vintages by the glass, and bottles to take home. It’s a lovely way to learn about Virginia’s growing wine scene and sip something special before dinner.
Need to know
If you crave a break from the “go-go-go” vacation style and instead long for a slow, restorative, soul-filling experience, The Omni Homestead delivers in spades. It’s ideal for:
Couples wanting to reconnect
Multi-generational families seeking variety
Solo travelers needing a digital detox
Wellness seekers who want to soak, hike, or just "be"
Plus, it’s only a two-hour drive from Charlottesville, VA, or Roanoke, VA, and not quite five hours from DC—remote enough to feel like a secret, yet easy enough to reach.
