Curator’s statement
Orlando has been part of my story for years—first as a teenager visiting with my grandparents, and then again during a difficult season after losing my dad, when I rediscovered just how powerful a little magic can be. This most recent trip brought everything full circle as we experienced it through our 4-year-old son’s eyes. What started with a simple Sesame Street visit grew into a full Orlando immersion—Disney, SeaWorld, and everything in between. It’s a place that evolves with you, offering something meaningful at every stage of life.

Things to do in Orlando

Animal Kingdom; Photo: Krystal Wilson
Animal Kingdom
This park doesn’t feel like a typical zoo or theme park—it’s fully immersed in nature. From the landscaping to the animal habitats, everything blends in a way that makes you feel like you’ve stepped into a living, breathing environment. It’s easily one of the most unique and calming Disney experiences.
Magic Kingdom
This is the heart of Disney magic. It’s less about big thrills and more about stepping into a world where imagination leads the way. Every corner brings that nostalgic, “anything is possible” feeling that makes it just as special for adults as it is for kids.
EPCOT
EPCOT gives you the chance to experience cultures from around the world in one place. You can walk from country to country, try incredible food, and take in different traditions all in a single day. It’s a perfect mix of exploration, learning, and indulgence.
SeaWorld Orlando
SeaWorld adds a completely different layer to your Orlando experience by focusing on marine life. It offers a chance to see and learn about aquatic animals up close, blending education with entertainment. It’s a great way to round out the “land, imagination, and ocean” sides of the destination.
Sesame Street Land (SeaWorld)
If you’re traveling with younger kids, this is a must-do. Walking through Sesame Street and seeing familiar characters come to life is pure joy at that age. The rides and shows are perfectly designed for little ones, making it a stress-free and memorable experience.
Congo River Golf (International Drive)
This is far more than your average mini golf stop. Alongside the course, there’s a scavenger hunt element, interactive games, and even live alligators you can feed—and sometimes hold. It’s a fun, slightly unexpected break from the theme parks that still feels very “Florida.”
Places to eat & drink in Orlando

Hash House A Go Go
If you’re looking for hearty, over-the-top comfort food, this is the place. The portions are huge, the dishes are rustic and creative, and the atmosphere is fun and welcoming from the moment you walk in. It’s the kind of spot where lunch turns into an experience, not just a meal.
Crazy Crab
A standout for seafood lovers, Crazy Crab delivers fresh, flavorful boils that you can customize to your liking. The house seasoning is a highlight—perfectly balanced and packed with flavor. It was a first-time visit for us, but easily one we’d return to again.
Casey’s Corner (Magic Kingdom)
Simple, classic, and surprisingly memorable. Casey’s Corner focuses on hot dogs and sides, but they do them really well. It’s an easy, satisfying stop inside Magic Kingdom—and good enough that we went back twice.
Pho Vinh
For something outside the theme park bubble, Pho Vinh is a great find. Whether you’re craving pho, ramen, or Vietnamese staples, everything is fresh, flavorful, and comforting. It’s a solid reset meal after long park days.
Valencia Restaurant (The Grove Resort)
Conveniently located at The Grove Resort, Valencia is a great option for a relaxed breakfast before heading out for the day. The food is consistently good, and the ease of access makes it especially valuable for families trying to get moving quickly.
Alfresco Market (The Grove Resort)
Perfect for grab-and-go needs, Alfresco Market covers everything from coffee to quick bites. With Starbucks options, ice cream, and a variety of snacks and light meals, it’s ideal for fueling up or winding down without leaving the property.
Need to know
Skip the buffet upsell at Valencia. They’ll often guide you toward the breakfast buffet, but you can order off the menu for a more affordable (and still great) option.
Download the Disney app—before you go. It’s essential for navigating the parks, checking wait times, managing reservations, and linking photos. It will make your entire experience smoother.
Don’t panic over “temporarily closed” rides. If a ride shows as temporarily closed but still lists a wait time, it’s usually operating or about to reopen—keep an eye on it.
Plan for toll roads if you’re renting a car. Orlando has more tolls than you expect, and they add up quickly. The rental car toll add-on is worth it for convenience alone.
Respect the Florida sun. It’s stronger than most people anticipate. Apply sunscreen early, reapply often, and don’t wait until you feel burned—it’s already too late by then.
Understand how Disney’s Memory Maker works. Without a MagicBand, you’ll need to scan your app at each photo location. For ride photos, make sure everyone is properly linked in the app ahead of time—Disney does a good job walking you through this.
Traveling with kids? Bring or rent a stroller. Even if your child doesn’t use one at home, the parks require a lot of walking. This is one of those decisions where you won’t regret having one.
Secure your spot at The Grove Resort water park early. It’s open beyond just hotel guests and fills up fast. Either reserve seating or arrive when it opens—having a “home base” makes a big difference in your day.
Build in a true resort day. The Grove Resort isn’t just a place to sleep—it’s part of the experience. Between the water park, pools, pier, and activities, it’s worth dedicating a full day to just enjoying the property.
