Advisor - Nashville With Kids: An Elevated Family Travel Guide to Music City
Curator’s statement

Nashville is one of my favorite destinations for families who want culture, creativity, and comfort without sacrificing style. Beyond the honky-tonks, the city offers world-class museums, lush parks, incredible food, and thoughtfully designed hotels that welcome children without feeling juvenile. It’s a destination where kids can explore music, science, and history by day—while parents enjoy boutique shopping, elevated dining, and a strong sense of place.

Things to do in Nashville

  • Adventure Science Center: This hands-on science museum is ideal for kids ages 3–14, with interactive exhibits covering space, physics, health, and engineering. It’s educational without feeling formal and is one of the best rainy-day activities for families visiting Nashville.

  • Centennial Park & The Parthenon: Centennial Park is perfect for families needing open space to reset, with walking paths, playgrounds, and picnic spots. The full-scale Parthenon replica adds a dose of global culture and art, making it engaging for both kids and adults.

  • Country Music Hall of Fame (family programs): While known for music history, the museum also offers family-friendly exhibits and interactive music stations that appeal to younger travelers. It’s a great way to introduce kids to American music culture in an immersive, approachable way.

  • Nashville Zoo at Grassmere: Set on historic grounds, the Nashville Zoo feels spacious and well-designed rather than overwhelming. Its playgrounds, zip lines, and animal encounters make it especially enjoyable for elementary-age children.

  • 12South neighborhood stroll: This walkable neighborhood is ideal for families who enjoy boutique shopping, local cafés, and green spaces. Parents will love the curated shops, while kids will enjoy frequent stops for treats, murals, and relaxed outdoor seating.

  • Radnor Lake State Park: For families who enjoy nature, Radnor Lake offers peaceful hiking trails and wildlife sightings just minutes from downtown. It’s an excellent way to balance city exploration with quiet outdoor time.

  • Cheekwood Estate & Gardens: Cheekwood combines art, gardens, and seasonal family programming in a setting that feels both educational and restorative. Seasonal exhibits, children’s garden spaces, and wide lawns make it ideal for multigenerational travel.

  • Pinewood Social: Pinewood Social is a relaxed, design-forward space that works surprisingly well for families, especially earlier in the day. With bowling lanes, outdoor seating, coffee, food, and room for kids to move without feeling disruptive, it’s an ideal stop for families who want something social and stylish without a traditional kid-centric environment.

Places to eat & drink in Nashville

Butcher & Bee, Nashville

  • Butcher & Bee: A favorite for families who value thoughtful food, Butcher & Bee offers vibrant Mediterranean-inspired dishes with plenty of shareable options. The relaxed atmosphere works well with kids while still feeling refined.

  • The Pancake Pantry: A Nashville classic that remains a hit with families, especially younger travelers. The menu is approachable, portions are generous, and it’s an easy win for breakfast or brunch.

  • Frothy Monkey: Ideal for parents needing great coffee and kids needing space to unwind. Frothy Monkey offers breakfast, lunch, and baked goods in an environment that feels neighborhood-friendly rather than rushed.

  • Urban Grub: A more elevated option that still welcomes families, Urban Grub is known for Southern flavors, oysters, and a polished yet approachable setting. Best for early dinners with older kids.

  • Five Daughters Bakery: This stop is practically mandatory with kids. Known for its 100-layer donuts, it’s a fun treat-break while exploring 12South or East Nashville.

  • The Pharmacy Burger Parlor & Beer Garden: A casual, open-air option where kids can move around while parents enjoy well-executed food. The setting feels social and relaxed, especially earlier in the day.

Need to know

Nashville is best explored by neighborhood rather than attraction-hopping—building in downtime is key when traveling with children. Spring and fall offer the best weather for families, while summer can be hot and busy. Renting a car is highly recommended for families, as many top attractions are spread out. Early dinner reservations are ideal for elevated restaurants that are more family-friendly before evening crowds arrive.
