Curator’s statement
London is a city that blends history, culture, and everyday life in a way that feels both grand and deeply personal. I love how you can spend the morning walking through green parks, the afternoon shopping or exploring royal landmarks, and the evening watching world-class theater in the West End. The pub culture, iconic architecture, and easy access to nearby countryside towns make it a destination that feels alive at every pace. Whether it is your first visit or your tenth, London always offers something new to discover.

Things to do in London

Victoria Palace Theatre | Hamilton
Walk and people-watch in Hyde Park
Hyde Park is one of the best places in the city to relax and soak in local life. It is perfect for walking, rollerblading in warmer months, tossing a frisbee, or finding a quiet bench to watch the world go by. Bike rental stations are everywhere and make for an easy way to explore the park (or city, just avoid doing this at rush hour).
Shop along Oxford Street and Regent Street
These two famous shopping streets offer everything from global brands to classic British retail experiences. Mayfair’s nearby luxury boutiques are great for high-end shopping (I go for the shoes!) and window browsing.
Visit major iconic landmarks
See landmarks such as Big Ben, the London Eye, and Buckingham Palace. These are essential photo stops for any first-time visitor.
Watch a West End theater show
The West End is world-famous for live performances, including productions like Hamilton (musical). Seeing a show here is one of the best evening experiences in the city.
The historic train station experience
Visiting major rail hubs such as St Pancras, King’s Cross, and Paddington Stations are surprisingly enjoyable. The architecture is beautiful, and it is also a great place to grab coffee or watch travelers depart for the countryside.
Take a half-day train trip outside the city
Consider visiting quieter nearby towns such as Oxford or Bath for historic architecture, cafes, and a slower pace than central London.
Go on a Sherlock Holmes-themed tour
Fans of classic literature will enjoy visiting the area around 221B Baker Street, often associated with the fictional home of Sherlock Holmes and filled with references to the famous detective.
Walk the historic waterfront and city center areas
Spend time exploring central London neighborhoods, river views, and famous bridges along the Thames for a true sense of the city’s history and energy.
Places to eat & drink in London

Pull-tab beer from The Carpenter's Arms
The Grazing Goat: One of my favorite spots for a classic British meal. Order the sticky toffee pudding and try the Sunday roast if you are visiting for a relaxed, traditional pub-style dinner.
The Carpenter’s Arms: A charming neighborhood pub known for its casual atmosphere and great pull-tab beer-style service. It is a fun, low-key place to experience local London pub culture.
Dishoom Covent Garden: Famous for its Bombay-inspired cuisine and stylish café atmosphere. The breakfast naan rolls and chai are especially popular.
Sketch London: A whimsical, iconic dining experience known for its pink “Gallery” room and artistic presentation. It is more about the experience and ambiance than just the food.
Duck & Waffle: Located high above the city, this restaurant is perfect for late-night dining or sunrise views. The signature duck and waffle dish is a must-try.
Hawksmoor Seven Dials: If you want an excellent steakhouse experience, Hawksmoor is consistently praised for quality meat and classic British sides.
Fortnum & Mason Diamond Jubilee Tea Salon: One of the best places in the city for traditional afternoon tea. The presentation, service, and classic British tea experience are unforgettable.
Hyatt Regency London The Churchill Hotel Bar: If you are staying here, do not miss the hotel bar. The craft cocktails are excellent, making it a great place to relax after a day of sightseeing or shopping in the city.
Need to know
Walking is one of the best ways to experience the city, especially around central neighborhoods, parks, and historic districts. Comfortable shoes are highly recommended because many streets are cobblestone or uneven.
The weather can change quickly, so bring a light waterproof layer even if the forecast looks mild. Layering is key for year-round travel.
Consider purchasing attraction or transit passes if you plan to visit multiple landmarks or use the underground frequently. Public transportation is very efficient.
Evening theater shows in the West End often sell out, so booking in advance is strongly recommended.
Pubs are a great cultural experience. Many locals visit them for conversation, food, and drinks, not just nightlife.
Half-day train trips outside the city are a wonderful way to experience England’s countryside and historic towns while keeping your main stay in the city.
