Curator’s statement
Vouliagmeni (Athens Riviera) is particularly special to me because it’s where my family has spent countless summers. I recently had the unforgettable experience of getting married there. Sharing this beautiful destination with 200 of our friends and family made it even more memorable, as they fell in love with the beaches, food and culture. It is only around 25 minutes away from downtown Athens and historical sites such as the Acropolis, so it’s the perfect place to experience sun, culture and cuisine.

Things to do in Greece

Beaches
Vouliagmeni has stunning beaches and clear blue waters. If you’re not staying at a hotel that has a private beach, your beach options are the public beach (you pay a small fee and find your own chair. This gets super crowded so be sure to get there early) Or you can go to one of the beach clubs below. Here you have to pay the small public beach fee and the fee for the beach chairs, day bed or cabana. The beach clubs are a fun experience with comfortable cushioned chairs, food and drink service to your chairs and DJs. I recommend booking seats at the beach club in advance. Astir Beach Club is the most famous one, but here are my favorites:
Royal Beach Club: This is more of a local spot with good food, drinks, and also a chic beachside restaurant that you can enjoy lunch at to get a break from the sun.
Krabo Beach: Good music, good food and good vibe.
Bloom: A 60s-inspired beach club in Voula where you’ll find locals hanging out
Day Trips
History: set up a half-day tour to see downtown Athens and the major historical sites
Acropolis
Acropolis Museum
Changing of the Guards
Temple of Olympian Zeus
Insider Tip: after your tour, explore the neighborhood of Plaka and enjoy a sunset dinner on Psaras
Tavern’s rooftop (order the moussaka and pork chops)
Places to eat & drink in Greece

Breakfast/Lunch
Bakeries: You must try the bakeries when you visit Greece. I recommend trying Tiropita, Bougatsa, Spanakopita, Loukanikipita, Koulourakia. While in Greece, you must try Freddo Espresso & Freddo Cappucino. Insider Tip: ask for a “Freddo espresso/cappucino metrio” if you want it sweet.
Artopolis Bakery: authentic Greek bakery for coffee and pastries
Sofi’s Eatery: organic eatery with fresh juices, coffee, baked goods and breakfast/lunch
Gyros/Souvlaki
Tylixto: casual spot for authentic Greek cuisine. If you eat pork, order a pork gyro and fries.
Zaxos: Another casual great spot for authentic Greek gyros/souvlaki.
Dinner
Greeks eat late! Book reservations for after 8:30 if you want a crowd.
Papaioannou: Absolute favorite restaurant in Athens. Waterside dining with fresh fish, amazing dips (try their seafood pastas and taramasalata dip)
Mparmpounaki (Barbounaki): Traditional Greek taverna on the water. Same owners as Papaioannou, but more casual.
Sardelaki me Thea: Casual taverna on the water with fresh seafood and Greek classics
Ithaki: Beautiful sea views. Sushi and fresh fish. If you won’t make it to dinner there, at least go for a drink!
