Things to do in Southern Maine

  • Enjoy the beauty of the ocean from your cozy oceanfront accommodation. (Opt for the Premium Oceanview category for the in-room fireplace.) A good book, a glass of wine, a plush spa robe and views of the waves crashing against the cliffs — do you really want to leave your room?

  • Spend the day at the Cliff House Spa. Select from an impressive menu of treatments featuring the highest quality organic botanicals. Then enjoy the truly amazing views of the Atlantic Ocean in the cliffside Sanctuary with floor-to-ceiling windows or visit the indoor/outdoor Sun Lounge. Before you leave, make your own scrub or body oil at the Spa Scrub Bar or Oil Blending Bar — the perfect souvenir to recreate the relaxing vibes at home.

  • Enjoy the heated cliff-side infinity pool overlooking the ocean. Open year-round — you won’t miss out no matter when you stay.

  • Visit the Rachel Carson Wildlife Refuge, York Harbor Cliff Walk or Mount Agamenticus to experience Maine’s wildlife and ocean views.

  • Stroll the Marginal Way Path along the jagged oceanfront cliffs, and then end the evening with a musical at the Ogunquit Playhouse.

  • Traveling with kids? Stop by the Children’s Museum & Theater of Maine or Children’s Museum of New Hampshire for a day of family fun.

  • If you’re lucky enough to be at Cliff House between May–October, make sure to hop on a whale-watching tour!

  • Kayaking, biking and SUP are all easily accessible from Cliff House, Maine. Check out Coastal Maine Kayak + Bike as a one-stop shop.

  • Enjoy the quaint downtowns of Ogunquit, York, Portland or Kennebunkport. Portland has a historic walking tour, and Kennebunkport satisfies your lunchtime cravings with a Tasty Walking Tour.

Places to eat & drink in Southern Maine

Southern Maine is the place to be for locally sourced, farm-to-table meals.

Favorites nearby

  • Walker's Restaurant: Walker’s is the product of an amazing husband/wife duo who serve as the town’s farmers, chefs and hospitality aficionados. They use ingredients from their own farm to infuse the restaurant with the freshest seasonal flavors. The high-end, yet welcoming and warm atmosphere feels genuine — a must-stop for those who want to embrace the authentic, local energy. (If you’re lucky, you might catch one of their classes, like Tiki Cocktail Class, or Kid’s Cook Pasta Making Class.)

  • MC Perkins Cove If you love a restaurant with a view, this one is for you. With floor-to-ceiling windows, the ocean is the true star at this lovely local favorite. The location can’t be beat- wander through the quaint Perkins Cove area before or after your meal.

  • Northern Union: Set in a vintage 1920’s Ogunquit house, Northern Union offers a warm, local vibe in a casual, cozy setting. In addition to an extensive beer, cider, wine and cocktails menu, you’ll find surprisingly sophisticated and elevated cuisine tucked away in this charming old home.

Worth the drive

  • Cava: Nestled in the charming oceanfront town of Portsmouth, Maine, Cava offers modern Spanish tapas and two levels of wine bars. Grab a bite at street level, then head downstairs to the wine cave to sample a few of the internationally sourced wines.

  • White Barn Inn Restaurant is located at the White Barn Inn Resort and focuses on elevated cuisine using locally sourced ingredients. Stop here for a romantic night out in this rustically elegant space. Foodies will love the Chef’s eight-course Blind Tasting menu, while those really looking for a true Maine experience can try the Lobster Tasting Menu.

  • Chez Rosa is a small, romantic French bistro in a relaxed, yet chic, barn setting. The menu offers something for everyone — gluten-free, vegetarian and vegans alike will have plenty of choices.

  • Earth by Hidden Pond Resort is an innovative, nature-oriented retreat. For the freshest meal (the ingredients are grown on the resort’s farm) stop by and enjoy the cozy candlelit dining room.

Beer scene

  • Southern Maine has a dynamic beer scene — check out one of these breweries for a taste of the region. There are many to try - Woodland Farms Brewing, Allagash Brewing Company and Maine Beer Company to name a few. But Bissell Brothers is a unique option with a garden-like restaurant next to the brewery.
