Curator’s statement
Nashville feels special to me because it’s a city where world-famous live music meets small-town friendliness. I can catch incredible shows any night and still feel like I’m part of a welcoming community. Strolling from the Ryman Auditorium to neighborhoods filled with murals and local shops, I can’t help but feel the city’s love for music and storytelling. And beyond the honky-tonks, Nashville always surprises me with its playful Parthenon, riverside parks, and a food scene full of hot chicken and creative Southern cooking. It’s a place that feels Southern at heart, but always fresh and fun.

Things to do in Nashville

Ryman Auditorium
The Ryman, lovingly known as the “Mother Church of Country Music,” is a welcoming historic former tabernacle where legends like Johnny Cash and Patsy Cline once performed. I was amazed standing on that stage myself. There is something magical about it. Today, it hosts concerts of all kinds. You can enjoy a fun tour, snap your own photo on the famous stage, and explore exhibits that celebrate The Ryman’s special place in Nashville’s music history.
Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum
This museum, often called the “Smithsonian of country music,” is one of my favorite spots in Nashville! You’ll find amazing displays of instruments, costumes, and cars, plus tons of interactive exhibits that bring the story of country music to life. I could spend hours wandering the galleries, discovering special exhibits, and visiting the Hall of Fame Rotunda, and I recommend you do, too.
Honky-Tonk Highway on Lower Broadway
Lower Broadway is Nashville’s most famous street, buzzing with honky-tonks where live bands play all day and well into the night. I always have a blast hopping from bar to bar—many spots don’t even charge a cover! You can enjoy all kinds of music, take in breathtaking rooftop views, and soak up the city’s lively, welcoming nightlife. It’s a can’t-miss experience every time I visit.
Grand Ole Opry
The Grand Ole Opry is a legendary live radio show and concert series that’s been delighting fans of country and Americana music for nearly a century. I’ll never forget the energy of the crowd at an evening show—it was truly unforgettable. If you have time, take a backstage tour to see the famous circle of wood from the Ryman stage and get a behind-the-scenes peek at how the magic happens. It’s a must-see for music lovers and sure to put a smile on your face.
Centennial Park & The Parthenon
Centennial Park is my go-to spot for unwinding, with plenty of green space, scenic walking paths, a peaceful lake, and picnic spots for everyone to enjoy. I love walking past the full-size replica of the Greek Parthenon—it never gets old! Spend a relaxing afternoon in the park for free, or grab a ticket to go inside the Parthenon, which doubles as an art museum and is home to a giant statue of Athena.
The Gulch
The Gulch was once an industrial rail yard, but today it’s a vibrant neighborhood full of trendy restaurants, cozy coffee shops, and unique boutiques. Whenever I’m in the area, I love grabbing a bite and searching for a new treat. Don’t forget to snap a photo with the famous “What Lifts You” angel wings mural; it is a must for your Nashville photo album or an amazing Instagram or Facebook post. It’s a wonderful place to take a break and soak up the friendly Nashville vibe.
Printer’s Alley
Printer’s Alley, just a few blocks from Broadway, is a charming historic street that once buzzed with printing presses and later became a secret entertainment hub during Prohibition. I always find something new in its neon-lit bars and lounges, which create a cozy, speakeasy vibe. Whether you’re into jazz, blues, or classic cocktails, it’s perfect for a fun, relaxed night out with friends.
Belle Meade Historic Site & Winery
Belle Meade, just a short drive from downtown, is a beautiful historic estate where you’ll learn about Tennessee’s plantation history and hear the important stories of the enslaved people who lived there. I really enjoyed taking a leisurely tour of the mansion and grounds and learning about the world of thoroughbred horse breeding. Don’t skip the wine tasting at the on-site winery; it’s a lovely way to spend half a day exploring Nashville’s culture and hospitality.
Nissan Stadium
Nissan Stadium sits on the riverfront, just across the Cumberland River from downtown. It’s home to the NFL’s Tennessee Titans and often buzzes with big music festivals and concerts. I love catching a game or simply taking a relaxing stroll across the nearby pedestrian bridge for fantastic skyline views. Whether you’re a sports fan or just love live events, there’s always something fun to see or do.
Bridgestone Arena
Bridgestone Arena is right in the heart of downtown next to Broadway and is home to the NHL’s Nashville Predators. It’s also one of the city’s busiest concert venues, regularly hosting big-name acts, awards shows, and special events. I’ve spent some of my favorite nights here, catching both concerts and games. It’s so convenient to explore museums by day and enjoy an exciting event at night, all within walking distance.
Places to eat & drink in Nashville

Friends in Low Places Bar & Honky-Tonk
Friends in Low Places Bar & Honky-Tonk, owned by Garth Brooks and Trisha Yearwood, is always one of my first stops when I’m on Broadway. I love grabbing a drink on the rooftop and soaking in the live country music. The Southern-inspired bites are delicious, and the crowd is full of friendly faces. Every time I visit, I end up meeting someone new or hearing a great story. Don’t miss it!
Jelly Roll’s bar
Jelly Roll’s bar on Broadway quickly became one of my favorite new hangouts. The mix of country, rock, and hip-hop always keeps things interesting, and I love how the vibe is welcoming to everyone. The live music and the nods to Jelly Roll’s “underdog” story make it feel really authentic. If you want a place to relax and maybe even dance a little, I highly recommend checking it out.
Tootsie’s Orchid Lounge
Tootsie’s Orchid Lounge is a Nashville legend. Every time I walk by that bright purple exterior, I can’t resist going in. Inside, the live music on every floor and the friendly crowd always put a smile on my face. The walls are packed with music history, and I love spotting the photos and memorabilia. Whether it’s your first visit or your twentieth, Tootsie’s feels like home to me.
Etch
Etch is one of my go-to picks for a special dinner downtown. I’m always impressed by the creative, globally inspired dishes, and the staff makes me feel right at home. I love that the menu changes with the seasons. There is always something new to try. If you want a fun, flavorful meal steps from Broadway, you can’t go wrong with Etch.
The Finch
This American grill is my top brunch spot whenever I’m near Union Station. The vibe is bright and friendly, and I can never resist their oysters on the half shell or shrimp and grits. Whether I’m meeting friends for brunch or planning a date night, The Finch always delivers a great experience with creative cocktails and delicious food.
Hattie B’s Hot Chicken
Hattie B’s is my go-to spot when I’m craving Nashville hot chicken. I always order the medium heat (it’s spicy enough for me!) with their pimento mac and cheese on the side. The quick service means I can get back to exploring the city in no time. If you want a true taste of Nashville, make sure you stop by Hattie B’s. I promise you won’t regret it.
Need to know
When to go & crowds
I love visiting Nashville in the spring or fall; the weather is nearly perfect, and there’s always something fun happening in town. But I’ve definitely noticed that prices and crowds go up, especially on weekends. When I walk down Broadway or through the Gulch on a Friday night, it feels like everyone in town is there. If you are anything like me and prefer a more relaxed vibe, plan your visit for a weekday or go out earlier in the evening to beat the rush.
Getting around & airport tips
I usually walk as much as I can around downtown. There is just so much to see. But when I need to get between neighborhoods, I rely on rideshares like Uber or Lyft. I’ve also caught local buses a few times, which can be a fun way to see more of the city. When I fly into BNA, I always find that rideshares and taxis are the fastest way to get home. Taxis have a flat rate and rideshares pick up at the Ground Transportation Center inside the parking garage, which is super convenient.
Safety & nightlife awareness
I’ve always felt safe when exploring Nashville’s entertainment districts, but I do keep an eye on my phone and wallet, especially around Lower Broadway at night. There’s a lot of excitement (and a lot of drinks), so I make it a point to stay with friends and stick to well-lit, busy streets. We constantly check in with each other, especially if someone decides to head home early. A little extra caution goes a long way, so you can focus on having fun.
Etiquette, bachelorette culture & locals
Nashville is happy to host bachelor and bachelorette groups, and I’ve run into more than a few during my nights out. Locals really appreciate it when visitors keep noise down in residential areas, respect venue capacity, and make reservations rather than crowding walk-in restaurants. I always recommend paying attention to the vibe. Sometimes, a place welcomes cowboy hats and big groups, and other times it’s better to keep things low-key. And don’t forget to tip well.
Money, reservations & dress
One thing I love about Nashville is that most downtown bars don’t charge a cover, but I always bring some cash (or have my phone ready for QR codes) so I can tip the musicians. Some of my favorite restaurants and rooftops in The Gulch, 12South, and Germantown can get booked up fast, so I try to make reservations ahead of time. And don’t worry too much about what to wear—casual but neat is the way to go. I usually just aim to look put together, not fancy.
