Advisor - Sarasota Like a Local
Curator’s statement

Though I wasn’t born here, Sarasota is the place I now proudly call home. Living here has given me a deep appreciation for the way pristine Gulf beaches blend effortlessly with a thriving arts scene, exceptional dining, and a relaxed yet refined coastal lifestyle. What makes Sarasota special is its balance. It offers both elevated experiences and everyday moments that feel peaceful and unpretentious. Sharing this destination means inviting others to experience it the way I do: as a local who truly loves where she lives.

Things to do in Sarasota

  • Beaches: The main reason why many people come to visit. My personal favorites are Lido Beach or Anna Maria Island. Siesta Key is a must-visit for first-timers, too.

  • St. Armand’s Circle: The perfect balance of shopping and food. A must-visit for any first-timer.

  • Mote Science Education Aquarium (SEA): Opened in 2025, this aquarium is unlike any other I’ve experienced. Great for families, couples, or aspiring marine biologists. There’s truly something for everyone!

  • Private boat charters: What better way than to spend your visit to paradise than on the water?

  • Kayaking tour through the mangroves: Guided tours provide an up-close look at the natural beauty of the area. If you’re lucky, you might even spot a manatee!

Places to eat & drink in Sarasota

  • KOJO: The perfect spot for date night and small plates with great cocktails.

  • Owen’s Fish Camp: A true local gem. Bring your patience with you because they don’t accept reservations, but there’s a fantastic outdoor waiting area equipped with a bar and live music.

  • Cassariano Italian Eatery: My personal favorite Italian spot in the area. There are locations in Venice and Lakewood Ranch.

  • Hyde Park Steakhouse: The best of the best. Make sure to try their lobster bisque!

  • Shore Restaurant: There are multiple locations, but my favorite is the one on Longboat Key for the fantastic waterfront views.

  • O’Leary’s Tiki Bar and Grill: Tiki bar vibes right on Sarasota Bay. What more could you ask for?

Need to know

Sarasota has a large seasonal population, with many “snowbirds” visiting from up north during the colder months. Combined with spring break travel, March tends to be the busiest time of year. It’s a fantastic time to visit, but do expect heavier traffic, busier beaches, and dinner reservations that book up quickly. A little advance planning goes a long way during peak season.
