Advisor - Glam Without the Guilt: Budget-Friendly Beauty Near the Beverly Wilshire
Curator’s statement

There’s something about Beverly Hills that blends fantasy with reality—where even window shopping feels like an experience. Beverly Hills may be known for glitz and designer brands, but there’s a softer, more accessible side that’s full of history, beauty, and charm. I’ve always loved strolling vibrant neighborhoods and discovering affordable cultural experiences. This guide captures what caught my eye—and might surprise you too—all within reach of one of LA’s most iconic hotels The Beverly Wilshire.

Things to do in Los Angeles

The iconic shops and palm-lined elegance of Rodeo Drive, just outside the Beverly Wilshire.

Beverly Gardens Park—free (1 block away): This beautifully landscaped, 22-block-long park runs along Santa Monica Boulevard and offers over a mile of strolling paths lined with rose gardens, fountains, cacti, and sculptures. It’s home to the iconic Beverly Hills sign—a must for photos. As someone who loves to walk every day, this park instantly landed on my bucket list. It seems like the kind of spot that is easy to explore and full of art and history—and I can’t wait to experience it in person.

Greystone Mansion & Gardens—free (7 min drive): This grand Tudor Revival estate tucked into the hills is surrounded by formal gardens, walking paths, and sweeping views of LA. Built in 1928 for the Doheny family, it’s full of history, mystery, and cinematic drama. The gardens are free to wander, and the history is rich. It reminded me of Craigdarroch Castle in Victoria and the Marr House in Saskatoon. I love places that invite you to imagine life in another era—even if you’re just walking the gardens.

Franklin Canyon Park—free (10 min drive): A peaceful 600-acre park between Beverly Hills and the Valley, with hiking trails, a duck pond, and a small lake. It reminded me of being driven out for orienteering with my aunt back in British Columbia—sometimes without warning! While I’m not much of a hiker, I can see why this would be the perfect retreat for nature lovers—it’s perfect for quiet seekers or nature lovers.

The Getty Center—free admission (25 min drive): Set on a Brentwood hilltop, The Getty is known for its panoramic views, dreamy gardens, a world-class art collection, and architecture. You only pay for parking. While researching it, I couldn’t figure out why it felt so familiar—then I remembered I studied art, design, and film history in the early 2000s, and The Getty came up constantly. Now I really want to see it for myself.

The Hammer Museum—free admission (20 min drive): A contemporary art museum operated by UCLA with rotating exhibits, public programs, and a vibrant atmosphere—and also free. I didn’t know museums of this scale could be free until I lived in London. When I lived in Victoria, most museums were $20+ even in the ’90s. Finding a place like this in LA that’s totally free? That’s a win.

Rodeo Drive—free to explore (just outside the hotel): Two miles of window shopping, iconic storefronts, and palm-lined charm. Home to designer flagships, award-winning restaurants, and the famous intersection of Rodeo & Wilshire. I love to walk, whether it’s Broadway in Saskatoon or the Inner Harbour in Victoria. Rodeo Drive feels like the LA version of that—stylish, walkable, and buzzing with energy.

The Grove & Original Farmers Market—free to browse (15 min drive): A beloved combo of open-air shopping and food stalls dating back to 1934. With over 100 vendors, it’s a low-cost way to taste your way through LA. Farmers markets take me back to visiting the Saskatoon one with my grandma. The energy, the smells, the bite-sized budget eats—I’d lose hours here.
