Curator’s statement
The food scene in Mexico City is incredible, and the best part is that plant-based eaters don’t have to miss out on the fun! This is one of my favorite destinations for anything from a long weekend city-break to a jumping off point for a longer trip to really experience what Mexico has to offer. In addition to the outstanding food, Mexico City is also a gorgeous city, full of trees, parks, and cute shops, and the weather is fantastic year-round. If you’re into great food, cafes, and matcha (my addiction)—this is your place. If you want to check out museums and activities full of art, history, and culture—this is your place. If you just want to meander around and window-shop in a gorgeous city—this is your place.

Things to do in Mexico City

Visit the Museo Frida Kahlo: This museum is located within Frida Kahlo’s home, called La Casa Azul, where she lived for most of her life. It gives a unique glimpse into the lives of Kahlo and Diego Rivera.
Explore the stories of Mexico’s cultural and artistic history at the Museo Nacional de Antropologia: The Anthropology Museum is a great place to wander around to get a deeper appreciation for the cultural history of Mexico and has a wide range of exhibits cover ancient to modern history.
Eat your way through the city on a vegan food tour: There are just too many restaurants to try here, but a walking food tour gives you an excellent opportunity to try a whole handful of the city’s best vegan offerings in one afternoon.
Take a day trip to Puebla, Cholula, and Tonantzintla: Visit some of the most culturally important and interesting sites in Central Mexico within within a single day—you will see beautiful landscapes, and volcanoes, historic churches and the Great Pyramid of Cholula, Pueabla’s UNESCO-listed historic city center, and admire indigenous art and local crafts on this packed and meaningful itinerary.
Experience a theatrical Lucha Libre performance: Lucha Libre features masked wrestlers, acrobatic maneuvers, and dramatic storylines. It is a fun and culturally significant part of Mexican culture, and absolutely worth catching a show!
Hot air balloon over Teotihuecan: Enjoy a stunning perspective on the UNESCO-listed Pyramids of the Sun and the Moon, Temple of Quetzalpapalotl, and Avenue of the Dead.
Places to eat & drink in Mexico City

Vegetal Vegancarniceria: Grab brunch from this cute and small restaurant in Roma Norte.
Churreria El Moro: Perfect for late-night churros (or breakfast churros, or anytime churros).
Veguerrero: This unassuming little restaurant has incredible the best plant-based meat tacos. Truly incredible. They are so simple and so good, definitely worth a detour to taste!
Paxil: If the words “vegan,” “seafood,” and “food cart” don’t seem like they would go together... you need to visit Paxil. The dishes are really creative, interesting, and delicious. You likely won't have to go out of your way for it, as it's as it's in a great location, but it would be worth visiting no matter where it was!
El Mundo: Visit for a more upscale dinner and try their creative and delicious tarot-inspired cocktails. They will even do a mini-tarot reading for you to indicate which cocktail you should get, making the experience that much more entertaining.
Por Siempre Vegana Taqueria: Another great, unassuming taco joint that is highly worth visiting. They have a great selection and everything is very reasonably priced, so you go head and try it all!
Need to know
The Roma, Condesa, and Juarez neighborhoods are very popular, beautiful, and full of things to do, but I would suggest taking some time to wander further for a deeper cultural experience (especially if it isn't your first time in CDMX). Some great places to explore outside of the most heavily touristed areas are: Coyoacan, Tlalpan, Teotihuacan, Desierto de Los Leones, and Arca Tierra.
To curate a unique and meaningful itinerary that provides more cultural immersion and context (and of course, incredible vegan bites), please reach out to plan your CDMX trip together!
