Things to do in Palm Springs

  • Go to VillageFest (Thursday nights)
Every Thursday evening, downtown Palm Springs turns into a lively open-air market filled with local artists, food vendors, and musicians. It’s a great spot to grab a bite or walk around before going to dinner, people-watch, and soak up that small-town energy under the desert stars.

  • Hike the Indian Canyons (Tahquitz and Palm Canyon)
These trails are full of surprises—shady palm groves, natural streams, and stunning views of the desert floor. Go early before it heats up, and you’ll have sections of the trail almost to yourself.

  • Architecture and design tour
Palm Springs is a mid-century design playground. Hop on a guided tour (or cruise around on your own) to see iconic homes and colorful doors in neighborhoods like Old Las Palmas, Movie Colony, and Twin Palms.

  • Explore Downtown and the Design District
Wander along Palm Canyon Drive, stopping into vintage stores, art galleries, and funky boutiques. You’ll find everything from retro glassware to locally made jewelry, perfect for a bit of treasure hunting.

  • Palm Springs Art Museum and Architecture & Design Center
A compact but impressive museum that blends desert culture, architecture, and contemporary art. It’s a great place to escape the afternoon heat and feel inspired or to stop by before heading to dinner downtown.

  • Pool day
Doing “nothing” by the pool is practically a local tradition. Book a cabana or find a shaded lounger, order a drink, and let the day drift by. The light and the views make it feel a little cinematic. There are also always pool parties going on.

  • Horseback riding with Smoke Tree Stables
A classic desert experience. Ride through scenic canyons and sandy trails just minutes from downtown—the mountain views are unbeatable, and the guides are so knowledgeable about the history of the area. Advanced riders and first-timers can enjoy this fun and adventurous activity!

  • Shopping at Cabazon Outlets
About 20 minutes outside Palm Springs, Cabazon Outlets has high-end brands at real discounts. It’s a fun half-day trip if you want to mix some retail therapy into your desert escape.

  • Go out on Arenas Road
Palm Springs has one of the best LGBTQ+ bar scenes anywhere. Start at Chill Bar or Hunters, and then just see where the night takes you—everything’s walkable, welcoming, and always full of energy!

Places to eat & drink in Palm Springs

  • Workshop Kitchen + Bar
Sleek, moody, and delicious—this spot serves creative California fare in an industrial-chic space.

  • Tac/Quila
Bright, fun, and full of energy, Tac/Quila does modern Mexican with a Palm Springs twist. Come for the margaritas, stay for the tacos and lively patio scene.

  • Cheeky’s
The go-to brunch spot. Everyone raves about the bacon flight and the ever-changing seasonal menu. It’s worth the wait (or get there early to skip the line).

  • Bar Cecil
Equal parts stylish and relaxed, Bar Cecil is that place you can settle into for a long dinner with good conversation and even better cocktails.

  • The Tropicale
Retro glam meets island vibes. Think pink booths, strong drinks, and a palm-filled patio that feels like stepping into a 1950s supper club—perfect for dinner before heading out on Arenas.

  • Birba
A laid-back patio restaurant that feels like a backyard dinner party. Pizzas, cocktails and twinkle lights—it’s the kind of place you’ll want to return to before you even leave.

  • The Pink Cabana (at Sands Hotel & Spa)
Gorgeous design, Mediterranean flavors, and a bit of playful Palm Springs nostalgia. Go for brunch or dinner—either way, it’s very “Instagram meets golden hour.”

  • Towne Bagels
Low-key and delicious, this local favorite does New York-style bagels, sandwiches, and strong coffee—ideal for fueling up before a hike or pool day.

  • King’s Highway and The Amigo Room (Ace Hotel & Swim Club)
Daytime diner, nighttime hangout. King’s Highway has comfort food with a twist, and The Amigo Room turns into a vibey cocktail bar after dark.

Need to know

Palm Springs is best between October and April when the weather’s warm but comfortable. Summers can hit triple digits, so plan early hikes and lazy pool afternoons. Some restaurants close early in the week in the summer, so make reservations for Friday–Sunday nights. Uber and Lyft are easy to use, but if you want to explore further (like Joshua Tree or Cabazon), renting a car is a good idea. And don’t forget sunscreen—the desert sun is no joke!
