Curator’s statement

Cleveland is a city that has something for everyone. Whether you are a family visiting with kids, a couple visiting for the weekend or a group of friends wanting to check out the nightlife, you will find something to do in Cleveland. Cleveland is not too far from my hometown, so I have visited many times on many different occasions, from family trips, to date nights, to bachelorette parties. There truly is something for everyone in the CLE.

Things to do in Cleveland

The West Side Market

  • West Side Market — Located in Ohio City, the West Side Market is a must stop when in Cleveland. Peruse through the aisles of vendors and eat some yummy food along the way.

  • The Jack Casino — Located in the old Higbee building in Public Square, you can try your luck at the casino. If you don’t like to gamble, at least stop outside the building and get your picture taken with the plaque featuring the iconic leg lamp from the movie “A Christmas Story.” The building was a filming location for the movie.

  • Goodtime III — Cruise down the Cuyahoga River and along the Lake Erie shore and see Cleveland from a different perspective.

  • Cleveland Museum of Art — If you are an art lover or looking to visit Cleveland on a budget, the Cleveland Museum of Art is free to all visitors! It has a vast collection of artwork so be prepared to spend a few hours in the museum.

  • Cleveland Botanical Garden - Visit the glasshouses and the outdoor gardens. It is a fun stop for all ages.

  • Sporting Events — Depending on the season you can catch a football game at Brown’s stadium, a basketball game at Rocket Fieldhouse, or a Guardians game at Progressive Field.

  • Great Lakes Science Center — Sitting on the shore of Lake Erie, the Great Lakes Science Center is a great place to take the kids.

  • Cuyahoga Valley National Park — About a 30 minute drive south of Cleveland is the Cuyahoga Valley National Park. This is a great day trip if you want to escape the city. The CVNP has great hiking trails, waterfalls, and bird watching opportunities.

Places to eat & drink in Cleveland

Margarita Trio at Momocho

  • Momocho - Located in Ohio City, this is hands down our favorite place to eat and drink when visiting Cleveland. The Machaca taquitos are a must-try along with the queso fundido (with the egg on top)! My favorite drink is the red bell pepper margarita, with their cucumber margarita being a close 2nd. When I can’t choose, I usually get the margarita flight!

  • Pizza 216 - Great pizza and atmosphere. Try the pizza bianco and garlic knots.

  • Corner Alley — During the day, we have taken our kids here to bowl and eat lunch. It is also a good place to stop for adult drinks while making your way down E. 4th Street in the evening.

  • Welcome to the Farm - Fun atmosphere and location. Great place to listen to live music and have a drink. End your night with the Cowboy Coffee and you get to keep the Welcome to the Farm mug it’s served in!

  • Steve’s Gyro - A staple at the West Side Market, this is a must-eat if visiting and you like gyros. Once you get your gyro, I would recommend finding the stairs up to the balcony on the opposite side of the market. It is a cool little place to sit and people watch while you eat (no tables and chairs, but there is a ledge that people sit on).

Need to know

If visiting Cleveland around the Holiday season, visit Public Square to enjoy ice skating and hot cocoa.
