Things to do in Puerto Escondido

El Origen Beach Club
If you are looking for an oasis of luxury and peace in the middle of paradise, this beach club is the place to be. With an access fee of $400 MXN (22 USD), which serves as credit for food and drinks, it provides a little bit of exclusivity, compared to public beaches that can get crowded at certain times of the day.
It's the perfect plan if you’re looking to pamper yourself, away from the hustle and bustle, and recharge in style, without having to stay in a luxury hotel.
Casa Wabi
An art foundation just 40 minutes away from the tourist area of Puerto Escondido, it's the ideal choice for a day trip away from the quiet days at the beach.
What makes this space special is how its minimalist concrete design blends with the surrounding nature of the beach, the wind, and the sand. It's a space that invites you to introspect, to disconnect from the hustle and bustle, and to connect with art and the environment in a serene way. A true masterpiece, waiting for you to discover it.
Surfing
There's something special about surfing in Puerto Escondido. On one hand, you have beaches like Zicatela, where you see professional surfers riding waves the size of buildings, a true adrenaline rush. On the other hand, you have Playa Carrizalillo, where the waves are gentle and excellent for beginners.
I took a lesson, and although I fell a thousand times, every time I managed to stand up on the board, for just a few seconds, I felt immense happiness. What makes Puerto Escondido so great is that it doesn't matter if you're a pro looking for the perfect wave or someone who's never touched a board—you’ll always find a spot.
Baby turtle release
It's something that goes beyond a simple tourist activity. It feels like you're participating in something much bigger and meaningful.
The first time I did it, we arrived at a beach at sunset, and as the sun began to tint the sky orange and pink, I was handed a small coconut shell with a sea turtle inside, so fragile and tiny it made me nervous. When I crouched down on the sand to let her go, I saw her instincts immediately kick in. She knew exactly where to go, and she ran with all her might towards the sea.
Bioluminescent tour
If you're looking for a truly breathtaking experience, the night tours to the Manialtepec Lagoon are just what you’re looking for. Upon arrival, you won't see anything, just the silhouette of the mangroves, but as soon as you dip your hand in the water, it'll be pure magic.
Every movement you make, every splash, creates a trail of neon-blue light, as if the water had a life of its own. And, in case you were wondering, yes, you can swim in the lagoon.

Need to know
Although almost every place accepts card payments, you might find yourself needing some cash for transactions. Puerto Escondido is not big on mobility apps, therefore most tourists move around in taxis.
