Advisor - Captivated by Seoul: A Traveler's Journey
Curator’s statement

South Korea captured my imagination through the captivating world of K-dramas, which beautifully showcase its vibrant culture and stunning landscapes. Intrigued by the stories and visuals, I felt compelled to experience Seoul firsthand — to walk its bustling streets, savor its flavors and immerse myself in the history and charm depicted on screen. The city exceeded my expectations, blending tradition and modernity in ways that felt both familiar and awe-inspiring. Visiting Seoul transformed my fascination into a deep appreciation for its culture, people and unique spirit.

Things to do in Seoul

Regina Mitchell at N Seoul Tower

Relax at a jjimjilbang (Korean sauna)

Indulge in ultimate relaxation by visiting a jjimjilbang, a traditional Korean spa. Treat yourself to the famous Korean body scrub — worth every extra penny for its rejuvenating benefits. Do note that men and women have separate bathhouses, and nudity is the norm. It might feel daunting at first, but don’t worry — no one is paying attention! Instead, immerse yourself in the therapeutic experience of steaming, soaking and unwinding like a local.

Visit historic sites

If you love historical dramas as much as I do, stepping into Seoul's well-preserved historic landmarks is like walking straight into the Joseon Dynasty! Gyeongbokgung Palace, Bukchon Hanok Village and Changdeokgung Palace's Secret Garden transport you to a bygone era with their stunning architecture and serene ambiance. I highly recommend the Discover Seoul Pass, which includes a free Hanbok rental — a perfect touch to complete the experience of visiting Gyeongbokgung Palace. Wearing a hanbok while exploring the palace grounds adds an authentic and magical feel to your journey through history.

Enjoy Korean BBQ

Korean BBQ is an absolute must-try! From sizzling meat on the grill to endless side dishes (banchan), it’s a feast for all the senses. However, don’t forget to pack your dry shampoo and fabric refresher — you might carry that smoky aroma with you, and we can’t have everyone around you getting jealous that you had BBQ and they didn’t!

Go skincare shopping

Shopping for Korean skincare is an adventure in itself! With a vast variety of stores — Innisfree, Etude House and Olive Young, just to name a few — you’ll get your steps in while discovering the best in K-beauty. Whether it’s snail mucin, sheet masks or serums, every product feels like a treat for your skin. After all, shopping for self-care is always a win-win!

Experience the bar scene

If you’re of legal drinking age, make your way to Itaewon, Seoul's international district. Whether you’re into creative cocktails, soju or trying the popular local beer Cass, the bars and taverns here offer something for everyone. It's the perfect way to soak in the vibrant nightlife culture.

Discover the nightlife in Hongdae and Itaewon

Hongdae offers electric clubbing experiences, with spots like Club Aura drawing in music lovers and partygoers. For a more laid-back vibe, Itaewon is the go-to for hookah lounges and trendy bars. Both districts have their unique energy and charm, making them fantastic places to explore after dark.

Shop at local markets

Namdaemun Market stands out as a bustling hub of activity, offering everything from affordable souvenirs to fresh produce and street food. Wandering through its lively alleys is an adventure in itself! My personal favorite find was the cutest key chains — perfect little mementos to bring home. Don’t miss the opportunity to try hotteok (sweet pancakes) or tteokbokki (spicy rice cakes) while you’re there.

Visit Namsan Seoul Tower

Perched atop Namsan Mountain, this iconic landmark offers breathtaking panoramic views of the city, especially at night. If you’re lucky, you might even catch a live performance, adding a touch of magic to your visit. Don’t forget to check out the famous “Locks of Love!”

Catch a women's-only musical

A special shoutout to Touch Five, a must-see musical just for women where talent and athleticism take the spotlight. The performances are a mesmerizing mix of captivating choreography and alluring moves. Miracle, one of the performers, even made waves on the show Physical 100! His charisma and strength shine both on stage and off. And let’s not forget K — a true class act with dreamy eyes and a gentlemanly presence that’ll leave you spellbound. These shows deliver pure artistry alongside unforgettable entertainment.

Cafe hopping

Seoul is a cafe lover's dream come true. Whether it’s a themed cafe, a minimalist haven or a trendy hangout, there are endless options to explore. Each cafe offers something unique, from photo-worthy aesthetics to delicious desserts and specialty drinks. It’s a great way to embrace the city’s dynamic food scene while indulging in some downtime.
