Advisor - Highlights of the Dolomites
Curator’s statement

The Dolomites were breathtaking. Not just with their dramatic peaks and alpine beauty, but with the way they made me feel small in the best possible way. From peaceful mornings in mountain villages to unforgettable hikes with panoramic views, every moment felt like magic. It’s a place where adventure meets stillness, and where nature speaks louder than words. A place that is truly postcard-worthy. I can’t wait to help others experience the wonder for themselves.

Things to do in the Dolomites

Gschnagenhardt Alm through my lens.

Hike the Tre Cime di Lavaredo Loop

An iconic and unforgettable trail that winds around three towering peaks, Tre Cime offers jaw-dropping alpine views, charming rifugios, and scenery that looks straight out of a fairytale. It’s one of the most scenic hikes in the region and perfect for photography lovers.

Pro tip: I would do this trail clockwise and make sure to reserve a parking spot in advance!

Visit Lago di Braies at sunset

Lago di Braies is famous for its glassy emerald waters and storybook boat dock surrounded by towering peaks. Sunset adds a golden glow to the mountains and reflects beautifully on the lake. It’s the perfect time for peaceful views and stunning photos with fewer crowds.

Take the cable car to Seceda

The jagged ridgeline of Seceda is one of the most striking viewpoints in the Dolomites. Whether you hike or simply admire the panorama from the top, it’s a must-see for nature lovers and landscape photographers.

Pro tip: Take the first cable car up! It opens at 8:30 am, but a line has already formed by then. Arrive at least 15 minutes early, then start your walk to the ridge immediately after getting off the cable car to beat the crowds and get amazing pictures.

Explore Val di Funes & Gschnagenhardt Alm

This peaceful valley is home to rolling green meadows, charming alpine huts, and the postcard-perfect view of the Odle peaks. Don’t miss the walk to Gschnagenhardt Alm for homemade food with an unforgettable backdrop.

Pro tip: If you want the easiest hike back down, continue on the gravel path.

Relax and wander Seiser Alm (Alpe di Siusi)

Europe’s largest alpine meadow is a dream for easy walking, e-biking, or just relaxing with panoramic views. It’s ideal for a slower day with wildflowers, wide-open skies, and cozy mountain huts.

Indulge in South Tyrolean cuisine

The Dolomites are a hidden gem for foodies. From mountain rifugios serving polenta and speck to Michelin-starred restaurants blending Austrian and Italian flavors, every meal feels hearty, elevated, and well-earned.

Places to eat & drink in the Dolomites

Ate everything under the sun and still lost weight. What a combo!

Rifugio Odle: Geiseralm

Set against the dramatic backdrop of the Odle peaks, Geisleralm is a cozy alpine hut serving traditional South Tyrolean comfort food with a view you’ll never forget. Their house-made dumplings, apple strudel, and panoramic terrace make it an unforgettable mid-hike lunch stop.

Malga Schgaguler Schwaige (Seiser Alm)

A cozy, family-run mountain hut where everything is made from scratch, from their cheese to their butter. Try the Kaiserschmarrn (shredded pancakes) and enjoy a homemade elderflower spritz on the terrace overlooking the meadow.

Ristorante Tubladel (Ortisei)

Located in the charming village of Ortisei, this rustic-luxe restaurant offers elevated Alpine cuisine in a warm, wood-paneled setting. Their venison, truffle pasta, and wine list are all local favorites.

Baita Sofie Hütte (Seceda)

Perched right near the iconic Seceda ridgeline, Baita Sofie is the ultimate spot for a scenic lunch or aperitivo with panoramic views. Their gourmet alpine menu features local cheeses, hearty pastas, and a standout wine list—all best enjoyed from the sunny terrace overlooking the peaks.

Turonda: Italian Gourmet Street Food (Ortisei)

A hidden gem in the heart of Ortisei, Turonda puts a gourmet twist on Italian street food. From freshly made piadine to truffle-infused bites and local wines by the glass, it’s the perfect casual stop after a day of exploring.

Double crust pizza? AMAZING. Nutella pizza? TO DIE FOR.

Ristorante Tivoli (Cortina d’Ampezzo)

One of the most renowned fine-dining spots in the Dolomites, Tivoli offers a Michelin-starred experience rooted in local flavors. Expect beautifully plated dishes, an exceptional wine list, and warm alpine hospitality just minutes from the center of Cortina.

Need to know

  • Pack layers and be ready for changing weather. Even in summer, mornings and evenings can be chilly in the mountains. A light rain jacket, hiking shoes with grip, and a warm layer are essentials.

  • Book popular spots early. Places like Lago di Braies and Tre Cime can get crowded, especially in peak season (July–September). Go early (or stay late) to enjoy the views before the day-trippers arrive.

  • Stay in more than one area. Each region offers a different vibe. Ortisei is charming and walkable. Seiser Alm is peaceful and scenic. Cortina offers chic alpine energy. Spending a few nights in each lets you experience the full magic of the Dolomites. I did three nights in Ortisei and three nights in Cortina and it was perfect.
