Need to know

  • The local currency is the Jamaican Dollar, but US Dollars are widely accepted.

  • The official language is English, but most Jamaicans also converse using ‘Patrois’.

  • Don’t forget to pack your passport, sunblock, sunglasses, and bug repellent—the mosquitos and sand flies are no joke!

  • I recommend making taxi arrangements through your hotel to ensure it is a licensed taxi. You can also use the Uber or Amber OnTime apps to request a taxi service.

  • Driving in Jamaica is challenging and can be unsafe due to aggressive drivers, poor road conditions, and navigation difficulties. They also drive on the left-hand side of the road in Jamaica.
