Advisor - Fjord & Waves: Norway Surf & Fjord Experience
Curator’s statement

Hoddevik stands out with its serene, wind‑shaped bay framed by towering cliffs, creating a rare blend of calm, beauty, and raw Atlantic energy. The wider Nordfjord region adds a sense of grandeur, where glaciers, mountains, and fjords meet in dramatic harmony. Across Sogn og Fjordane, small communities thrive in landscapes that feel both ancient and alive, shaped by nature yet deeply human. Together, they form a place where simplicity, adventure, and cultural depth coexist in a way that feels genuinely unique.

Where to stay

Day 1: Hoddevik & West Cape (Vestkapp)

The entrance to Hoddevik Beach

Stadlandet pulls you in from the first moment: Start your day catching waves in Hoddevik or Ervik, where the Atlantic gives you energy you can feel. Then drive up to Vestkapp for a raw, wide‑open 360° view that reminds you why this coastline is legendary. Stretch your legs on the plateau and grab a coffee or lunch at the viewpoint café if it’s open. When the sun drops, head back to the beach for a golden‑hour glow and finish with a relaxed dinner in Leikanger, the perfect end to a day that feels real and unforgettable.

Day 2: Selje & its mystery

Selje Kloster

Start your day with an outdoor activity of your choice. Then head to Selje and catch a boat out to Selje Kloster, a peaceful island monastery where stone ruins meet open sea. Sunniva‑hulen adds a touch of mystery, known as the legendary refuge of Saint Sunniva.

Day 3: Måløy & Vågsøy: Where the ocean shapes everything

Start your Vågsøy adventure at Kannesteinen, where the ocean has sculpted the rock into a shape you won’t forget. Then head out to Kråkenes Lighthouse, a place where the weather hits hard and the views feel raw and powerful; if you’re curious about the area’s wartime past, the Måløyraidsenteret adds real depth and tells the gripping story of the WWII raid that shaped the town’s identity. Finish the day with a slow walk along Refviksanden’s bright white sand before settling in for dinner in Måløy, the perfect ending to a day shaped by sea and stories.

Day 4: Calm beauty in Loen & Stryn

In Loen, the day splits into two equally unforgettable paths. Those joining the guided Via Ferrata spend 5–7 hours climbing high above the fjord, moving along iron steps and airy bridges with views that only get better the higher you go. Everyone else can glide straight to the top with the Skylift, stepping out onto Hoven’s easy panoramic trails before continuing to Briksdalsbreen, Oldevatnet, and Lovatnet for glacier views and calm turquoise water. By the end, no matter which route you chose, you’ve seen Loen and Stryn from their very best angles.

Day 5: Bremanger coast

Start your Bremanger day on the bright sands of Grotlesanden, where the water shifts from deep blue to clear turquoise as the waves roll in. From there, step back in time at Vingen Helleristninger, one of Norway’s oldest rock‑carving sites, tucked into a quiet valley that feels far from the modern world. Continue to Kalvåg, a colourful fishing village right on the water, and settle in at Knutholmen for a lunch that tastes like the coast itself. The afternoon is yours: drift between sauna heat and cold‑water dips, paddle a kayak through calm bays, try your luck with a fishing rod, or simply enjoy the slow rhythm of village life.

Day 6: Exploring Nordfjordeid & Gloppen

Begin in Nordfjordeid, where Sagastad’s majestic Viking ship and the charm of Eidsgata set a refined, cultural tone before a leisurely lunch. Continue the scenic journey to Sandane and wander through Trivselskogen and the dramatic setting of Fosseteateret Holvikfossen, where art and nature blend seamlessly. Spend the afternoon gliding across Gloppefjorden on an E‑foil, SUP, or kayak, letting the stillness of the fjord elevate the experience. Conclude the day with a beautifully crafted dinner at Gloppen Hotell.

Need to know

Stadlandet, Hoddevik, and the wider Nordfjord region reward travellers who slow down and embrace both the raw coastal weather and the calm fjord landscapes. Expect shifting conditions, winding scenic roads, and small communities where surf culture, history, and nature blend seamlessly. Bring layers, good footwear, and a flexible mindset—sun, fog, and wind often share the same day. Whether you’re surfing in Hoddevik, hiking to viewpoints, exploring glacier lakes, or simply enjoying local seafood, Nordfjord offers a premium mix of wild beauty and quiet moments that feel genuinely Norwegian.
