Day 1: Espresso with good company to kickstart our trip

A feast for all senses at Il Mercato Centrale
We began the day like true Florentines—with a perfectly pulled espresso at Caffè Gilli, the city’s oldest and most iconic coffee bar. Standing at the counter, we soaked in the buzz of the morning crowd (because in Florence, there are no to-go cups—if you don’t have time to enjoy an espresso while catching up with a friend, it’s not worth having!). From there, we headed to Il Mercato Centrale Firenze, where we spent several hours tasting our way through stalls filled with both familiar favorites and new discoveries. The market was a feast for all the senses and a true immersion into local life. We ended the day at a charming enoteca, sipping wines from different Tuscan regions and, of course, sending a few bottles home to keep the magic going.
Day 2: Vintage shopping and delicious pizza

Pizza dreams do come true at Gusta Pizza
Sunday in Florence was a vintage lover’s dream. We spent the day treasure hunting, starting with the Santo Spirito market—a monthly event that’s far more curated than your typical flea market. Think antiques, vintage handbags and clothing, and beautifully handcrafted goods. There’s no shipping available, so make sure to leave room in your suitcase for that special find!
We spent much of the day exploring the Oltrarno district, known not only for its antique furniture and unique boutiques, but also for its effortlessly hip vibe. The neighborhood is full of charming coffee bars, cozy wine spots, and some of the best gelato in the city—perfect for breaks in between shopping. We wrapped up the day with a stop at Gusta Pizza, where we savored one of Florence’s most beloved traditional thin-crust pies. A perfect Sunday blend of style, flavor, and local flair.
Day 3: A tour through Florence's history

A view from Piazzale Michelangelo never gets old
Our final day was dedicated to soaking in Florence’s incredible art and history. We focused on the Uffizi Galleries—a must-visit, though with so many museums to choose from, you could easily spend days exploring. To make the most of our time, we hired a local guide who knew a lot about the Medici family. The guide made the gallery come alive by combining the family’s interesting history with the story of the artwork and the cultural legacy they left behind.
We stopped at the Accademia Gallery quickly but meaningfully to see Michelangelo’s David in all his glory. Then we went to Piazzale Michelangelo to look at the bronze copy and enjoy the amazing views of the city. It was a day filled with walking, wonder, and perspective. We wrapped it up perfectly with a well-earned cocktail at our beautiful hotel, the Four Seasons Florence—a serene and luxurious place to reflect on a truly unforgettable trip.
Need to know
Florence swept us off our feet once again with its rich blend of history, culture, fashion, and food. From espressos and gelato at every corner, to shopping for the best of the best, every day brought a new experience that deepened our connection to this magical city. We immersed ourselves in local life—wandering markets, sipping wine, and standing shoulder-to-shoulder with locals. We balance our love for art and culture with plenty of time for indulgence.
Travel Tips:
Hire a local guide for museums and tours—they add so much context and make the art and neighborhoods come alive.
Don’t rush your espresso (or any meal for that matter)—Florence is about slowing down. Embrace local customs.
Explore Oltrarno and other less touristy neighborhoods to get the true feel of life as a Florentine.
Wear comfortable shoes—Florence’s old cobblestone roads are best explored on foot, and you’ll definitely rack up the steps!
Ship wine home, but be ready to carry your vintage finds—many markets and small shops don’t offer shipping.
Each visit to Florence feels like a new chapter in a love story that never ends. I always leave inspired, full, and already planning my next return. I know you will, too!
