Advisor - Weekend Revelry: A Romantic Charleston Getaway
Curator’s statement

Charleston is special because it makes you slow down. My husband and I are typically very busy at home with work and our children, and Charleston helps us slow down and reconnect. There’s a lot there that appeals to both of us, and we are always so happy when we go.

Things to do in Charleston

One of the many courtyards off of King Street

  • Eat and drink: Charleston has some phenomenal restaurants. The hardest part is selecting the ones you’re going to try during your vacation (which I am happy to help with).

  • Shopping on King Street: King Street has some wonderful stores and art galleries.

  • Relax at the spa: The hotel spas here are fabulous and well-appointed!

  • See the historical sites: Charleston is home to a number of Civil War historical sites.

  • Take a walk through gorgeous neighborhoods and stumble upon hidden gems. The architecture is gorgeous, and a lot of the neighborhoods downtown have some great hidden gem shops and restaurants.

Places to eat & drink in Charleston

Citrus Club oysters

  • The Citrus Club is on the Dewberry’s roof. While you might have a wait to get in, being a hotel guest can make that shorter. The food and drinks are wonderful, and the views are even better.

  • Hall’s Chophouse is a well-known restaurant in Charleston, and for a reason. They make a wonderful steak, with a wide variety of sides. The service is wonderful as well!

  • Bar 167 is a great place to take a break from King Street shopping. There is a regular bar location, and a raw bar.

  • Bowen’s Island Restaurant is a short drive outside of Charleston toward Folly Beach, and is such a fun place to go. Don’t be put off by the appearance—go in and try it!

  • Darling Oyster Bar is on the north part of King Street, and has wonderful, fresh oysters. It is a must-do for my husband and I.

Need to know

Charleston is one of my favorite destinations for a romantic getaway in the United States. The hotels are fabulous. The restaurants are some of the best I’ve ever had, and there is plenty to do to satisfy everyone. You have art galleries, historical sites, shopping, golf, and more!
