Day 1: Sightseeing & shopping

White Point Garden

Start your trip by grabbing some breakfast and coffee at Harken Cafe, then head to the Waterfront Park to see the iconic pineapple fountain. Continue strolling down the water until you arrive at White Point Garden, where you can cool off under the beautiful trees. From there, you will be at the southern most point of King Street, where you can walk straight north to see a beautiful residential area that turns into restaurants and shopping. My favorite lunch spot that we stopped at was 167 Raw Oyster Bar. There are no reservations, so definitely try and get there earlier in the day if you can!

After lunch, continue walking up King Street for more shopping, or you could take a small detour on Market Street to see the Charleston City Market and end the afternoon with an appetizer and drink at Henry’s On the Market (one of the oldest bars in town!).

Day 2: Food tour & carriage ride around downtown

If you love to eat great food and also learn some about the place you are visiting, I always recommend a food tour from a local. This is where we started off our second day and went to a few different places that were local favorites (not tourist traps) and tried some classic, low-country dishes.

Before dinner, we went on a carriage ride to learn more about the rich U.S. history and beautiful historic homes and churches.

Day 3: Day trip to Sullivan’s Island

After spending a couple of days in the city, get away to one of the many beaches that are a quick drive away. We went to Sullivan’s Island, which was only a 20 minute Uber ride from our hotel. We spent the morning walking down the beach, then stopped at Poe’s Tavern for a drink before heading to Shem’s Creek for lunch and watching the boats (and dolphins!) come through.

Need to know

You can’t go wrong with the food in Charleston, but some spots I recommend are: Husk, 82 Queen, Fleet Landing Restaurant & Raw Bar, and Iron Rose.
