Things to do in Baltimore

  • Ravens football game: On game day, it feels like the whole city turns purple and black—and honestly, it’s one of my favorite times to be in Baltimore. I love starting with Ravens Walk for the energy (and food trucks!) before heading into M&T Bank Stadium, which is just a short walk from the Inner Harbor.

  • Orioles baseball game: Camden Yards is hands-down one of the prettiest ballparks I’ve ever been to, and I still get goosebumps walking through the gates. Even if you’re not a huge baseball fan, grab some crab mac & cheese, or a funnel cake and just soak in the vibe—it’s such a classic Baltimore experience.

  • Pre-gaming at Pickles with Orange Crushes: Pickles Pub is my go-to pregame spot, and I’ll admit—I’ve been known to down a 40oz Orange Crush a little too quickly. The drink is sweet, refreshing, and totally Baltimore (just promise me you’ll skip the fake OJ versions you might see elsewhere).

  • Edgar Allan Poe historical sites: I’ve always found it fascinating how much Baltimore embraces Edgar Allan Poe—you can visit his old home and then pay respects at his grave downtown. Fun fact: our NFL team is named after “The Raven,” and yes, our mascot’s name is Poe (how cool is that?).

  • Shopping & dining in Fells Point: Fells Point is one of those neighborhoods where I can easily spend an entire Saturday—brunch at Twist, day drinks with live music at The Horse You Came In On, then dinner and cocktails by the water. I love how it mixes old cobblestones and history with such a fun, modern energy.

  • Eating in Little Italy: Little Italy feels like stepping into another world, and I go there whenever I want comfort food and warm hospitality. My personal favorites? Chipparelli’s for its cozy, family vibe and La Scala for a slightly fancier night (and yes, I’ve totally played bocce there after dinner).

  • Dive bars: Some of my best nights in Baltimore have been at our little neighborhood dive bars—they’re unpretentious, friendly, and always full of character. On Federal Hill (where I live), things get especially lively on game days, and it’s such a fun way to feel part of the community.

  • Nearby beaches: When I need a quick escape, I love driving out to the Delaware beaches—they’re about three hours from the city and way more low-key than Ocean City. Rehoboth is a personal favorite for its boardwalk and charm, but Assateague’s wild horses are a magical sight you’ll never forget.

  • Dining & shopping in Annapolis: Annapolis is such an easy day trip from Baltimore, and I never get tired of wandering its historic streets and waterfront. I usually grab crab cakes (always seasoned with Old Bay, of course), pop into the little shops, and imagine what it must have been like when George Washington strolled these same streets.

Places to eat & drink in Baltimore

The Rusty Scupper Restaurant

  • Drinks at The Bygone: If you’re looking for a little glamour, The Bygone is your spot—perched 29 stories high with jaw-dropping views of the Inner Harbor. I love coming here for sunsets with a cocktail in hand. Just be sure to dress up, because they do enforce a strict dress code.

  • Maximon: Maximon is one of my absolute favorite date-night spots along the Harbor, blending Mexican and Latin flavors with a stunning waterfront view. From ceviche and tacos to curated tequilas, every meal here feels like a mini escape.

  • The Rusty Scupper: For a true Maryland seafood experience, The Rusty Scupper never disappoints. With floor-to-ceiling windows over the water, delicious crab cakes, and an upscale vibe, it’s my go-to for special occasions (you may even spot a celebrity or two!).

  • NiHao: NiHao is hands-down the best Chinese restaurant in Baltimore, and it’s always buzzing with locals. Whether I’m craving their famous Peking Duck, dumplings, or dim sum, this place never fails to hit the spot—especially on holidays when everything else is closed.

  • Guinness Open Gate Brewery: Yes, Baltimore has its very own Guinness Brewery just 20 minutes outside the city—and it’s such a fun day trip! They brew the Guinness Blonde exclusively here (you won’t find it in Ireland), and the tours, restaurant, and tasting room make for a perfect outing with friends.

  • Ministry of Brewing: Ministry of Brewing might just be the most unique brewery I’ve ever visited—it’s set inside a converted Catholic church in Upper Fells. Sipping craft beer under stained glass windows is such a cool experience, and their seasonal brews are always worth a try.

  • The Horse You Came In On: Steeped in history and lore, this 1700s saloon is said to be the last place Edgar Allan Poe was seen alive. Today, it’s a lively Fells Point bar with live music and a haunted reputation that adds just the right amount of intrigue.

  • Nick’s Fish House: Nick’s is my go-to for casual seafood with a view—it’s all about mallets, crab buckets, and cold Orange Crushes on their big outdoor patio. On weekends, live music makes it the perfect spot to unwind by the water with friends.

  • Speakeasies: Baltimore’s speakeasy scene is thriving, and The Elk Room is one of my personal favorites with its dim lighting, cozy seating, and incredible cocktails. Each speakeasy has its own hidden charm, so half the fun is seeking them out and finding your own favorite.

Need to know

Getting to Baltimore couldn’t be easier, with plenty of options by plane, train, car, or even boat. By car, it’s just 45 minutes from Washington, D.C., about 90 minutes from Philadelphia, and roughly three and a half hours from New York City. Amtrak’s busy Northeast Corridor runs right through Baltimore with stops at Penn Station and BWI Airport, making it simple to connect from New York, Philly, or D.C. For an even more budget-friendly option, the local MARC train provides frequent service between Baltimore and Washington’s Union Station, perfect for day trips or commuters alike.

If you’re flying in, Baltimore/Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport (BWI) is only minutes from downtown and serves as a major hub for Southwest Airlines, often offering weekend getaway deals for around $100. Reagan National (DCA) and Dulles (IAD) are other nearby options, though both are more than an hour away. For international travelers, Icelandair and PLAY connect Baltimore with Europe at competitive fares, while the Maryland Cruise Terminal brings in major cruise lines like Carnival and Royal Caribbean right to the Inner Harbor. No matter how you arrive, Baltimore is a city that’s easy to reach and worth the trip.
