The vibrant neighborhoods of Houston offer unique shopping experiences, charming boutiques and eclectic dining options. As a born and raised Houstonian, I am always looking for the best recommendations for friends and travelers. I eat out multiple times a week and have done many staycations in town. Things to do in Houston

A green park in Houston.

Where to Shop

Marcel Market (and the Montrose Collective) - A delightful shop full of French imports. From clothes to food to accessories, I promise you'll fall in love.

Rice Village - A great collection of shops and restaurants at an outdoor mall next to Rice University.

Kuhl-linscomb - The ultimate store: gifts, home goods, furniture, kitchenware and so much more! This 5-building store is a fun, unique experience and I bet you'll find something you adore!

The Galleria - Three massive stories of shops. Looking to shop a luxury brand? The Galleria is where you'll find it. It's not all luxury though, there are stores in every price range and for every family member. Don't forget to check out the indoor ice-skating rink on the bottom floor.

What to Do

Hermann Park is home to sprawling green spaces, picturesque gardens, tranquil lakes, and diverse attractions like the Houston Zoo and Miller Outdoor Theatre. It offers an escape and endless opportunities for leisure, recreation and exploration in the heart of the city.

The Museum of Natural Science is full of marvels. Dinosaurs, Gems, a butterfly center, planetarium and so much more. This museum has something for everyone!

See a show - Check out the calendar at Houston Theater to see what's playing in the city (musicals, live music, comedy show, symphony, etc.).

The Children's Museum - A hands-on experience for kids and adults. Guaranteed fun for the whole family!

Day trips

Brenham - Home of Blue Bell Ice Cream and a great historic downtown to explore.

Sam Houston State Park - A great way to get away from the city. Camping, hiking trails and a lake.

Places to eat & drink in Houston

Restaurant in Houston.

We have so many great restaurants that it's always hard to narrow it down to a few but these are musts!

Angela's Oven - Only open on Saturday and Sundays but it is a must! Best chocolate croissants in the city.

El Tiempo (on Washington) - There are several locations of this local restaurant, but this location is by far best! The ambiance and the food are great! What to order: House Margarita, Beef Fajitas (just order a large and share with the whole table!), Sopapillas for dessert!

Izakaya Wa - This Japanese izakaya is such a great experience. Whether you're a solo diner or going with a group you won't regret this choice. We often sit at the sushi bar - the chefs and sushi are 5 stars - but we have tried almost the whole menu and there isn't one thing I wouldn't order again. Favorite orders: Salmon sashimi, pork belly skewers, bacon wrapped asparagas skewers, chicken curry and memorial roll.

Taste of Texas - This Houston steakhouse is one-of-kind and a staple in the city. From their amazing salad bar to picking out your own steak to the fabulous staff, you are guaranteed to have the best time. What to order: steak, steak, steak and the bacon-wrapped quail.

Roostar - This casual Vietnamese grill has an exceptional fusion of traditional Vietnamese flavors with modern twists. I promise you will crave this once you leave. What to order: Grilled Pork Bahn Mi Combo with Fries OR Yellow Beef Curry.

Mala Sichuan - From the numbing sensation of their perfectly balanced mala sauce to the tenderness of their Sichuan peppercorn-infused meats, Mala Sichuan takes diners on an unforgettable culinary adventure through the spice and heat of Sichuan cuisine. What to order: Red Oil Dumplings, Spicy & Crispy Chicken and Water Boiled Fish.

Anvil Bar & Refuge - Great bar! Fun atmosphere, experienced bartenders and delicious drinks. What more do you need?
