Curator’s statement

The Caribbean is unlike anywhere else in the world because it blends breathtaking natural beauty with an extraordinary mix of cultures, histories, and experiences all within close reach of one another. Each island has its own personality, from vibrant music and cuisine to unique landscapes shaped by volcanoes, reefs, rain forests, and white sand beaches. A Caribbean cruise makes this diversity especially special, allowing you to wake up in a new country, culture, and scenery almost every day, without ever unpacking more than once.

Things to do in the Caribbean

Caribbean cruise highlights: My favorite destinations

Having recently explored the Caribbean on a cruise, I’m excited to share some of my favorite stops, each offering unique experiences, breathtaking scenery, and unforgettable memories.

Martinique: Les Anse d’Arlet

A peaceful and authentic village with crystal-clear waters, colorful houses, and an iconic pier beside the church. Standing there and watching sea turtles swim below made this stop truly magical and unforgettable.

Guadeloupe: Pointe des Châteaux

Located at the eastern tip of Grande-Terre, this dramatic limestone peninsula offers sweeping ocean views, rugged cliffs, and wild beaches. I loved hiking up to the 10-meter-high cross viewpoint, where you can see La Désirade, Petite-Terre, and Marie-Galante in the distance.

British Virgin Islands: Cane Garden Bay

A scenic beach destination with white sand, turquoise waters, and a protective reef perfect for swimming and snorkeling. The lively village behind the beach, full of bars, shops, and eateries, adds a welcoming, relaxed vibe.

Antigua & Barbuda: Fort James & Devil’s Bridge

Fort James, perched at St. John’s Harbor, is an 18th-century British fort with panoramic views of the Caribbean Sea. I loved exploring the stone walls and historic cannons.

Devil’s Bridge, a natural limestone arch on the rugged northeastern coast, offers crashing waves, blowholes, and striking photo opportunities-a personal favorite for dramatic coastal scenery.

St. Kitts & Nevis: Reggae Beach Bar & Brimstone Hill Fortress

Reggae Beach Bar & Grill is a slice of paradise, with soft white sand, calm waters, and a lively vibe featuring live music and sun-soaked fun.

Brimstone Hill Fortress, a UNESCO World Heritage site, is perfect for wandering historic ramparts and capturing sweeping views of St. Kitts and the Caribbean Sea.

  • Tip: Don’t miss a photo at the iconic St. Kitts sign on your return to the ship!

St. Maarten: Sky Explorer Gondola & Maho Beach

Sky Explorer Gondola offers a serene glide over lush hills and scenic landscapes with panoramic views of Philipsburg and the Caribbean Sea—a perfect spot for photography.

Maho Beach is a thrilling stop where turquoise waters meet low-flying planes from Princess Juliana International Airport. Relax on the soft sand, enjoy beach-side bars, and snap unforgettable photos.

This guide highlights just a few of my favorite experiences from this incredible cruise—each stop offering a mix of natural beauty, culture, adventure, and relaxation. I can’t wait for you to create your own unforgettable Caribbean memories!

Places to eat & drink in the Caribbean

Caribbean culinary & destination highlights: Travel notes & recommendations

Exploring the Caribbean is always a sensory experience—vibrant cultures, stunning coastlines, and unforgettable food. During my recent travels, I had the pleasure of visiting several islands and sampling some outstanding local spots, along with hearing excellent reviews about others worth adding to your itinerary. Here are some of my top destination and dining highlights:

Guadeloupe: David 02

A hidden gem in Guadeloupe, David 02 delivers an authentic taste of local Creole cuisine in a relaxed, welcoming setting. The menu showcases bold Caribbean flavors, fresh ingredients, and hearty portions. Expect well-seasoned dishes, friendly service, and a laid-back island atmosphere.

British Virgin Islands (BVI): Banana Bar and Grill

Set against the stunning backdrop of the BVI, Banana Bar and Grill is a lively beachfront restaurant offering delicious comfort food with Caribbean flair. Known for its casual vibe, refreshing cocktails, and scenic views, this is an ideal stop for lunch or sunset drinks. It’s the perfect blend of island energy, tasty meals, and unforgettable coastal scenery.

St. Maarten: Yvette’s Restaurant (highly recommended)

Although I did not personally visit Yvette’s Restaurant, it came highly recommended by locals and fellow travelers. This beloved establishment is celebrated for its authentic local dishes, including flavorful curried goat and freshly prepared local fish. Known for its casual setting and warm hospitality, Yvette’s is often praised as one of the best places to experience genuine St. Maarten cuisine.

St. Kitts & Nevis: Bird Rock Food Court (near RAM’s Supermarket)

Located in the Bird Rock area, this convenient food court is a fantastic stop for quick, satisfying local meals. Highlights include:

  • Shawarma King: Delicious, flavor-packed wraps and platters

  • The Jerk Pit: Smoky, spicy jerk meats bursting with Caribbean spice

  • Scrumptious Café: Comfort food, pastries, and quick bites

This spot offers something for everyone!

Martinique: Le Littoral

Le Littoral combines elegant French-Caribbean cuisine with breathtaking coastal views. Known for its refined dishes, fresh seafood, and beautifully plated meals, this restaurant offers a sophisticated dining experience. The tranquil seaside setting makes it ideal for romantic dinners, special celebrations, or simply indulging in Martinique’s renowned culinary excellence.

If you'd like custom travel itineraries, island-hopping experiences, or personalized dining recommendations, I’d be happy to help plan your next unforgettable getaway.

Need to know

  • Plan your time wisely. Port days move quickly. Prioritize key attractions and allow enough time to return to the ship at least 60–90 minutes before all-aboard time.

  • Currency & payments: Most islands accept major credit cards, however, carrying small amounts of local currency or small US bills is highly recommended for taxis, food stalls, and local vendors. In French territories such as Guadeloupe and Martinique, the Euro (€) is used.

  • Language tips: English is widely spoken throughout most Caribbean islands. In Guadeloupe and Martinique, French and Creole are commonly spoken. Learning a few basic phrases is always appreciated and enhances cultural interactions.

  • Transportation tips: Taxis are readily available at cruise ports. Always confirm fares before departing or use officially marked taxi services.

  • Book early or go independent, carefully: Cruise line excursions offer convenience and peace of mind, while independent tours provide flexibility and often better value. When booking independently, choose reputable operators and confirm return guarantees.

  • Stay close to port: Focus on attractions located near the cruise terminal, especially when docking time is limited.

  • Pack smart: Bring sunscreen, water, comfortable walking shoes, a hat, and lightweight clothing suitable for warm Caribbean weather.

  • Dining strategy: Popular local food spots can become crowded during peak cruise hours. Dining slightly earlier or later can help avoid long waits.

  • Connectivity: Wi-Fi access may be limited ashore. Download offline maps and key information before leaving the ship.

  • Respect local culture: Dress appropriately when leaving beach areas and be courteous to locals—a friendly attitude goes a long way.

  • Weather awareness: Tropical weather can change quickly. Carry light rain protection and stay well hydrated.
