Things to do in Cabo, Mexico

a couple on a boat

Boat excursion

Some sort of boat excursion is an absolute must when visiting Cabo, Mexico. Going for a boat ride in the Sea of Cortez is amazing any time of the year, but it’s even better during whale season which occurs from December to April.

Our FAVORITE boat excursion is chartering a private yacht with Cabo Sailing. Your charter starts with a ride by the famous Cabo arch, followed by an hour-long cruise to Santa María Bay or Chileno Bay for snorkeling. These are the best snorkeling spots to see lots of beautiful fish & some of the prettiest turquoise water! However, if snorkeling isn't your thing, you can enjoy sunbathing on the yacht!

After snorkeling, you'll be served a lunch of sandwiches, fruit, quesadillas, chips, salsa, & guac. For dinner, they offer sushi & charcuterie, too! There's a 3-hour open bar during your private yacht charter, making it extra fun! Cabo Sailing offers a variety of private yacht & sailboat charters, as well as shared tours.

Rooftops

Cabo has some amazing rooftops which are so much fun to visit both day & night!

  • Rooftop 360: If you are staying near the Cabo San Lucas side of Los Cabos, we recommend visiting Rooftop 360 at Corazon Cabo Resort during the day or night. We love visiting Rooftop 360 during the day since it has an amazing rooftop pool & the best views of Medano Beach! The lounge chairs are comfortable, the live DJ is a vibe, & the cocktails are great! Since The Rooftop 360 is the tallest rooftop in Cabo, it provides a nice breeze which is extremely refreshing in the summer. Making a reservation is recommended, too. In the evening, we recommend going to Rooftop 360 to watch the sunset since it provides some of the best sunset views in Cabo San Lucas. The later it gets into the night, the more Rooftop 360 turns into a nightclub with a live DJ which is tons of fun. Visiting The Rooftop 360 is a must during your joint bachelor/bachelorette party, destination wedding week, honeymoon or anniversary trip!

  • Hotel El Ganzo: If you are staying near the San José del Cabo side of Los Cabos, we recommend visiting Hotel El Ganzo’s rooftop during the day! Their pool is amazing!!

  • Rooftop at The Cape: For the best rooftop vibes at night, head to the Rooftop at The Cape Hotel. Get there early to watch the sunset then stay through the evening for the live DJ & open dance floor!

Beaches

  • Medano Beach: While there are many amazing beaches in Cabo Mexico, our favorite is Medano Beach because there is so much you can do! Visiting Medano Beach is perfect during any type of trip to Cabo, & here are some of our favorite things to do! The Office on the Beach has some of the best beach food & an impressive margarita list. Tabasco Beach Bar is low-key bar & they have beach chairs you can lounge at during the day. Sandbar Los Cabos is another low-key beach bar. You can also schedule affordable massages which are offered on their rooftop!

  • Lover's Beach: Taking a water taxi could fall under the boat excursion section, but we love renting a water taxi from Medano Beach to get to Lover’s Beach. To get a water taxi, just walk along Medano Beach & a vendor will be sure to approach you & offer to sell you something. So, find a guy selling water taxis & negotiate to get a good rate! Also, get the vendor’s phone number to play it safe so you can be sure to get your ride back. Once you’re on your water taxi, tell your caption how long you want to stay at Lover’s Beach & they will come back to pick you up. Bring some drinks, snacks, beach towels, & sunscreen in your beach bag/cooler (but not too much since you have to hop on & off the water taxi). We recommend staying about 2 hours since there isn’t much there, but the water & views are super beautiful! On the way to or from Lover’s Beach, you’ll also get a tour of the famous Cabo rocks & your water taxi gets up close & personal to the arch - giving you some of the best views & photo opps!! This is one of our favorite ways to see the famous Cabo rocks! Grabbing a water taxi to spend a few hours at Lover’s Beach is a fun activity for a couple on their honeymoon or wedding anniversary trip, so we highly recommend it!

Golf

Cabo Mexico is known for its golf with so many world-renowned golf courses.

  • Our absolute favorite is Quivira Los Cabos because it has the best all-inclusive comfort stations! Quivira Los Cabos is a Jack Nicklaus course & has the best views of the Pacific Ocean, too. Quivira Los Cabos is not the easiest course to get into, but if you have the opportunity to golf there, you absolutely have to.

  • Some of the other best golf courses in Cabo Mexico include Solmar Golf Links, Puerto Los Cabos, Diamante, Cabo del Sol, & Cabo Real, to name a few. We highly recommend golf in Cabo during your joint bachelor/bachelorette party, destination wedding week, honeymoon, or anniversary trip to Cabo Mexico!

Dinner

El Farallon: Splurging on an amazing dinner at El Farallon, located at Waldorf Astoria Los Cabos Pedregal, is 100% worth it during your honeymoon or anniversary trip to Cabo San Lucas. El Farallon is definitely the most romantic restaurant in Cabo & it’s where we got engaged! The restaurant itself is built into the cliffs of Pedregal, overlooking the Pacific Ocean, & the ambiance is truly spectacular. It’s very peaceful listening to the waves crashing onto the beach & the rocks, too. The El Farallon 5-course dining experience includes so many amazing foods & cocktails. The meal starts with bread (& if you are gluten-free, let the restaurant know because they have the best gluten-free bread!). The menu changes seasonally, but most recently, our first course was a lobster bisque. Then you will be served a trio of appetizers (we had ceviche, seabass kabobs, & a tomatillo salad). Next up is your main course that you order tableside, choosing one of their amazing seafood options (seabass is our favorite) & two side dishes each. Your meal ends with a dessert choice of churros, chocolate tamale, or gluten free cakes! Last but not least, make sure you order some delicious cocktails! All of their margaritas are amazing & we love the Pedregal Reyes signature cocktail. The entire dining experience is an evening to remember from the impeccable service, food and cocktails, to the breathtaking sunset views.

Animalon by the Sea: Another favorite type of boat excursion of ours is having dinner on the Animalon by the Sea. It is the best luxury dinner cruise in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico! Having dinner on Cabo’s first floating restaurant is perfect for any special occasion, but especially during your honeymoon or anniversary trip to Cabo Mexico. Animalon by the Sea is a unique culinary & luxury sunset boat ride experience aboard Los Cabos’ first floating restaurant. The meal selections by the acclaimed chef Javier Plascencia are amazing & we highly recommend adding the wine pairing to your dining experience. In true Rich & Kitch style, we’ve celebrated our wedding anniversary on the Animalon by the Sea a few times & we are always so impressed! Animalon by the Sea is the chicest floating restaurant in Cabo & the excursion includes a 3-hour dinner cruise around the Sea of Cortez. In the summer, we arrived at the dock at 5:30pm and then cruised from 6 to 9 which is perfect for photo opportunities by the famous Cabo arch, as well as beautiful summer sunsets. The Animalon is a 2-story, 49’ pontoon boat, offering a very smooth & enjoyable ride. The boat decor is boho chic & very aesthetically pleasing (& we need to give a shout-out to the nicest & best-decorated boat bathrooms we’ve ever seen lol!) Having dinner on the Animalon was amazing & the 5-course menu did not disappoint. The menu changes seasonally, but the food we’ve had is always delicious. The portion sizes were more than expected, so make sure you arrive hungry! Here is an example of the five course meal:

AMUSE BOUCHE: Guacamole & blue corn tortilla chips. Fried gnocchi with aged manchego cheese, & ibérico han. Bread & honey butter.
FIRST COURSE: Local kampachi, coconut leche de tigre, french green beans, toasted coconut, & red onion.
SECOND COURSE: Roasted tomato soup with grilled lobster, heirloom tomato, basil, & sourdough bread.
THIRD COURSE: Grilled octopus with quinoa & creamy potato.
FOURTH COURSE: Beef agnolotti with fresh peas, horseradish foam, & parmesan cheese
DESSERT: Sweet cornbread with corn husk milk, tapioca & zucchini flower

All of the meals are spaced out nicely during the boat ride, service is top-notch with presenting the food & bringing us cocktails, & the entire experience is just spectacular! Animalon by the Sea has an impressive full bar & the bartenders know how to make a spicy cocktail! There is also an espresso machine on board & they make the best carajillo we’ve ever had (& trust us, we’ve had our fair share of carajillos!) Animalon also offers the option to purchase cocktails only, but we highly recommend the entire dining experience. Animalon by the Sea is truly a luxurious experience & 100% worth booking during your Los Cabos honeymoon and/or anniversary trip.

Toro Cabo: Toro Cabo is one of our favorite dinner restaurants in Cabo Mexico since it has amazing Latin & Japanese cuisine. Toro Cabo is located in the Punta Ballena neighborhood of Los Cabos, Mexico, which is near the luxurious Esperanza resort. This is in the Tourist Corridor & closer to the San Lucas side of Cabo. We highly recommend dining at Toro Cabo no matter where you are staying since it is that good, but especially if you are staying in or near Cabo San Lucas. You’re sure to fall in love with Toro’s architecture when you see the stairs to enter the restaurant. It’s the perfect picture spot so be sure to stop for a photo on your way in! The restaurant is designed as a “box in the desert” and Toro Cabo truly provides all the desert oasis vibes, while being upscale trendy & chic. We love the outdoor fire pit & fountain area, but the inside bar & views from the indoor dining area are amazing, too! As mentioned, Toro Cabo’s cuisine is a Latin & Japanese fusion which is an amazing combination. All of the dishes we tried were amazing, but these are the Rich & Kitch favorites:

APPETIZER: Baja Tuna Tartar
TACOS: Short Rib Tacos & Soft Shell Crab Tacos
SUSHI: Angry Scorpion Roll
TIRADITO: This is a must-order if you like raw seafood. Ask your server which tiradito they recommend based on the season!

We love delicious cocktails & we are so impressed with Toro Cabo’s offerings:

PRESENTATION COCKTAIL: Toro’s Smoked Old Fashion with 23-year-aged rum is Richie’s favorite drink EVER. We also love the presentation!
MARGARITAS: When in Mexico, you have to order a margarita! Toro’s Mercado Margarita is pretty & tasty. You can also ask if they have a specialty cocktail like a spicy margarita & ask them to make it skinny!
FLIGHTS: Order a tequila flight or a rum flight - both are fun & delicious!

Toro Cabo is an amazing place to make a dinner reservation during your honeymoon and/or anniversary trip in Los Cabos, Mexico. Most nights, they have a live DJ which is great for a more vibey dining experience! Toro Cabo is also a fantastic option for your rehearsal dinner, wedding welcome dinner, or even your destination wedding!

Romeo & Julieta: The Best Italian Restaurant in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico is definitely Romeo y Julieta Ristorante. When you think about eating at an authentic Italian restaurant, you probably didn’t expect to find one of the best Italian restaurants located in downtown Cabo San Lucas, Mexico. We especially love this Italian restaurant for hosting your wedding rehearsal dinner or enjoying a dinner out while you're on your honeymoon in Los Cabos.

We’ve been having dinner at Romeo & Julieta since our first trip to Cabo in 2007 & it is a place we dine at every time we are in Cabo since they have the BEST Italian food. We highly recommend ordering the tableside Caesar Salad, Lasagna and/or Pesce alla Mugnaia (if you love fresh seafood), & finish with tableside Mexican coffee and/or gelato! While you can guarantee that the food will be amazing, the dining experience is amazing, too. They have great service & oftentimes, they even have live music in their open-air dining section which is super enjoyable! We love Romeo y Julieta Ristorante so much, we decided to host our wedding rehearsal dinner there during our destination wedding week! Since it is such a special place to us, we knew we wanted to share it with our family & friends who traveled to Cabo for our destination wedding. When it comes to Rich & Kitch wedding planning tips, make sure you pick a meaningful restaurant for your rehearsal dinner!

Right next door to the restaurant, they have The Wine Bar by Romeo & Julieta. This cute little bar in downtown Cabo San Lucas is an amazing spot to drink wine or enjoy their delicious cocktails. They offer food at The Wine Bar, but we highly recommend stopping here for cocktails before your dinner reservation at the Romeo & Julieta restaurant. This is a perfect evening itinerary idea for a Los Cabos honeymoon or anniversary trip! So, if you are vacationing in Los Cabos & love Italian food, having dinner at Romeo y Julieta Ristorante in downtown Cabo San Lucas, Mexico is a must! It is an amazing restaurant for a wedding rehearsal dinner, but it’s also romantic for a nice dinner while you are on your honeymoon and/or anniversary trip in Cabo!

Tacos & tequila/mezcal

La Lupita is our favorite for the best taco restaurant & mezcal bar in Los Cabos, Mexico. La Lupita has two locations, one in downtown Cabo San Lucas & one in San José del Cabo, making it perfect for visiting no matter where you’re staying in Los Cabos! While La Lupita is obviously known for their tacos, they have many other Mexican meals as well. We usually stick with tacos, & all the tacos we’ve tried are amazing. The Miso Fish is my favorite & Richie’s favorite is the Pibil Suckling Pig. We also liked the Talla Fish, Tuna & Wakame, & Drunken Barbacoa, but you can’t go wrong with any taco! You’ll need a delicious cocktail to go with your tacos & ordering a Skinny Spicy Mezcalita is always a great choice.

We also recommend ordering a mezcal tasting. Our favorite was Legendario Domingo Espadín (orange label on the bottle) & we love how the mezcal tastings are presented! La Lupita is a more casual, open-air restaurant & has the best authentic Mexican vibes. They also have a live band that plays on the roof! It’s really the best atmosphere for enjoying tacos & mezcal. The service is top-notch, too, making this the perfect restaurant to try while you're honeymooning or celebrating your wedding anniversary in Los Cabos, Mexico! We mentioned La Lupita has two locations & both are amazing. However, if you dine at La Lupita’s San José del Cabo location, we recommend making a reservation in advance on a Thursday, so you can experience the famous Cabo art walk! Tacos & mezcal cocktails are the ideal combination, so dining at La Lupita during your bachelor/bachelorette party, honeymoon, or anniversary trip is a must. La Lupita makes for a great destination wedding rehearsal dinner location, too!

Asi y Asado is another favorite, but it is more of a local spot for grabbing tacos. They clearly know what they are doing though since they were featured on Diners Drive-ins & Dives! Asi y Asado is super affordable & we love going there for their salsa bar! The grilled fish tacos & el pastor tacos are our favorites. Also, they make an amazing spicy mojito, so be sure to order it!

Farm-to-table

Are you surprised to hear that Los Cabos has some of the best farm-to-table restaurants?! We love dining at these restaurants for any special occasion in Cabo!

Acre Baja: This lush sanctuary is such a vibe! As you venture past San José del Cabo, Mexico, you'll arrive at Acre Resort. We recommend having lunch & their signature mezcal cocktails at their amazing farm-to-table restaurant, then stop by their farm & animal rescue to play with puppies that are available for adoption! Or check out the farm before having dinner at Acre Baja’s restaurant!

Flora Farms: Probably the most well-known & absolutely beautiful property with so many offerings! Flora Farms is located next to Acre Baja but both are so different! We highly recommend stopping at Flora Farms for their Sunday brunch.

El Huerto: This is our favorite located near Cabo San Lucas! Both brunch & dinner at El Huerto Farm to Table are amazing, & the property is very pretty, too!
All of the farm to table options are amazing venues for destination weddings, too!
