Things to do in Sorrento

Get lost exploring the historic old town

Sorrento’s old town is a labyrinth of charming alleys lined with artisan shops, charming cafés, and iconic lemon products. Stop for a fresh lemon granita or lemoncillo spritz. Wander through the lemon groves, and browse handmade ceramics.

Relax at Spiaggia di Sorrento

Sorrento isn’t known for its wide sandy beaches, but its cozy black-sand coves and wooden beach platforms are unforgettable. Rent a chair and umbrella, grab a spritz, and enjoy calm waters with views of Mount Vesuvius. It’s one of the best ways to beat the summer heat.

Baths of Queen Giovanna

A natural swimming cove surrounded by ancient Roman ruins. The water is incredibly clear, perfect for swimming, snorkeling, or even cliff jumping. The walk down is steep, but the experience is pure magic—especially in the morning before it gets busy, and don’t forget to take water with you. It’s a workout!

Learn all about Sorrento’s legends at the Sorrento Experience Museum

When you need a break from the sun, this interactive museum is a surprisingly fun option. Dive into the myths of the Sorrento sirens, the story of Mount Vesuvius, and the history of the region through immersive exhibits. Great for families and curious travelers.

Take a day trip to Capri

It is an easy day trip from Sorrento. Hop on the ferry and enjoy the views as you sail away from Sorrento to the small island of Capri. Spend your day eating the freshest seafood while sipping a spritz, or exploring the local boutiques.

Places to eat & drink in Sorrento

The best gnocchi!

  • Il Ruttin Neapolita: A family-run spot, loved by locals and tourists alike. Don't miss the pistachio pizza, and enjoy complimentary homemade limoncello at the end of your meal.

  • Porta Marina: With views of Mount Vesuvius, it’s the perfect spot to grab lunch before hitting Spiaggia Di Sorrento beach. (Tip: The mussels and calamari are to die for!)

  • Gnocchi, osteria di famiglia: You go here for, you guessed it, Gnocchi! The truffle and Gnocchi a la Sorrento are the best.

  • La Terazza: One of the best spots to watch a magical sunset. Reserve a table outside and enjoy dinner with a breathtaking view. The lobster pasta was my favorite!

  • Vesuvio Panoramic Restaurant: For a special night out with another amazing sunset view, this is the spot. You can do the tasting menu or order a la carte. No matter what you order, your taste buds are in for a treat!

Need to know

The best way to get to Sorrento is to take the ferry from Naples. It will take about 45 minutes and you will have amazing views of Mount Vesuvius.
