Things to do in Costa Rica

Descending waterfalls in the heart of La Fortuna—equal parts adrenaline, adventure, and unforgettable jungle views.
One of my favorite things to do in Costa Rica is waterfall rappelling because it combines adrenaline, incredible scenery, and the kind of adventure that makes you feel fully immersed in nature. It’s one of the most exciting ways to experience the country’s lush jungles and hidden waterfalls up close.
Hiking through the rainforests and nature trails in Costa Rica is something I never get tired of. Every trail feels alive with tropical plants, wildlife sounds, and breathtaking views around every corner.
Wildlife spotting is one of the things that makes Costa Rica so unforgettable to me. Seeing sloths, monkeys, toucans, and colorful frogs in their natural habitat feels like stepping into another world.
One of the most special parts of Costa Rica is the people and the welcoming culture. The warmth, kindness, and “pura vida” lifestyle make every experience feel relaxed, genuine, and memorable.
I love the incredible variety that Costa Rica offers in such a small country. You can go from volcanoes and cloud forests to beaches and jungles all within the same trip.
The food in Costa Rica is simple, fresh, and full of flavor. From traditional gallo pinto to tropical fruits and fresh seafood, every meal feels comforting and authentic.
Places to eat & drink in Costa Rica

Pork belly bao buns at Tamaki Nikkei Sushi
La Finca at the Waldorf Astoria Costa Rica Punta Cacique is one of my favorite places to dine for its elevated take on Costa Rican flavors and stunning ocean views. The atmosphere feels refined yet connected to the natural beauty surrounding it.
Tamaki Nikkei is a must for fresh sushi with a creative Peruvian-Japanese twist. It’s the kind of place that perfectly blends vibrant flavors, laid-back energy, and an unforgettable dining experience.
Ayla at Nayara Tented Camp is one of the most beautiful jungle dining experiences in Costa Rica. Surrounded by lush rainforest views, the menu and atmosphere feel both romantic and immersive.
Sentido Norte at Casa Chameleon Las Catalinas is the perfect spot for sunset cocktails and fresh coastal cuisine. The panoramic ocean views make every meal feel like a special occasion.
Latitud 10° Norte at W Costa Rica - Reserva Conchal is one of my favorite places for a stylish dinner and craft cocktails after a beach day. The modern atmosphere mixed with local flavors creates a fun and energetic dining experience.
Need to know
Traveling through Costa Rica as a couple is one of those experiences that naturally blends romance with adventure in a way that feels effortless. When I went with my then-fiancé, I remember how quickly the trip shifted into this rhythm of shared adrenaline in the mornings—ziplining through the jungle, waterfall rappelling in La Fortuna—and slow, connected evenings spent talking over dinner or sitting in hot springs under the stars.
What made it feel so special wasn’t just the activities themselves, but how the country pulls you into the moment. We’d wake up to the sounds of the rainforest, spend the day hiking or spotting wildlife, and somehow always end up at a viewpoint or waterfall that felt completely private and untouched. It’s the kind of place where you’re constantly saying, “I can’t believe we’re actually here.”
For couples, I always recommend mixing adventure-heavy days in the Arenal/La Fortuna region with a few slower, more indulgent days on the coast. One of our favorite memories was unwinding after a full day of exploring with dinner at Ayla—surrounded by jungle, everything just felt intimate and completely removed from the outside world.
The romance really comes through in the balance. You can spend the morning rappelling down a waterfall or hiking through hanging bridges, and by sunset you’re watching the sky turn gold over the Pacific with a cocktail in hand at places like Sentido Norte. It never feels like you’re choosing between adventure and relaxation—you get both in the same day.
One thing I always tell couples planning a trip here is not to over-schedule. The best moments from our trip weren’t always the “planned” activities, but the in-between ones—driving through winding mountain roads, stopping for fruit on the side of the road, or just sitting together in a hammock listening to the rainforest come alive.
That’s what makes Costa Rica so memorable as a couple’s destination: It has a way of turning even the simplest moments into something you end up holding onto long after the trip ends.
