Curator’s statement
Destin holds a special place in my heart. It’s where I first saw the ocean, got married, and spent a summer living by the beach. I’ve visited with my kids since they were babies, and to this day, I haven’t found a beach more beautiful. It’s always been my happy place — stunning, simple to get around, and easy to reach.

Things to do in Florida

I love relaxing anywhere along scenic 98- just laying on the beach, drifting off to the sound of the waves and waking up to hear the ocean. I also love watching my kids play on the beautiful white sand.
I love spending some time at Village of Baytown Wharf and eating lunch there. It’s just a few miles down the road and has lots of fun shops and places to eat. I like to look at all the big boats and yachts parked at the docks there. Lots of activities for kids there as well.
Destin Harbor is always a blast with kid-friendly activities, great places to eat and drink and fun shops to explore.
I highly recommend a dolphin cruise — you can get tickets and board right at the harbor. On top of seeing dolphins, you can see sharks, and get awesome views of some really cool houses and mansions on the water.
Crab Island is a blast — you can rent a pontoon boat and hang out on the sandbar all day. There’s paddleboarding, kayaking and snorkeling. Floating vendors offer fun food and drinks so you can hang out there all day.
So many more fun excursions- parasailing, deep sea fishing. I could go on forever.
Places to eat & drink in Florida

I always recommend the original Dewey Destin off Calhoun — it feels like I’m sharing a local secret. It’s a no-frills spot, but the seafood is incredibly fresh straight from the water, and the shrimp are huge and delicious!
I love the Crab Trap on Mirimar Beach. It’s been a long-time favorite for dinner or just relaxing with appetizers and drinks.
Whales Tale also good for dinner and drinks — but they have a great breakfast menu as well!
Kenny D’s is a little restaurant that has amazing Po boys!
The Cabana Cafe, located in the Ariel Dunes Condos has the best pizza!
Need to know
I often stay in Miramar Beach, just east of Destin. It’s a quick drive to Destin Harbor for all of the activities but seems a smidge less crowded during busy seasons.
