Kawela Bay Beach
Kualoa Ranch
Kualoa Ranch was one of the highlights of my trip to Oʻahu and a must-do for adventurous couples. The dramatic mountain landscapes feel straight out of a movie, and for good reason—countless films and television shows have been filmed here. Whether you choose a zipline tour, ATV adventure, or movie sites tour, it's one of the best ways to experience Oʻahu's stunning natural beauty.
Mānoa Falls Trail
The Mānoa Falls Trail is a relatively easy hike that takes you through a lush tropical rainforest to a beautiful waterfall. I loved how quickly you can escape the city and immerse yourself in nature. It's a great option for travelers looking for a short adventure close to Honolulu.
Waimānalo Beach
Waimānalo Beach is one of my favorite beaches on Oʻahu and a place I often recommend to travelers looking to escape the crowds of Waikīkī. The soft white sand, turquoise water, and dramatic Koʻolau Mountain backdrop create one of the most beautiful beach settings on the island.
Laniakea Beach
Often referred to as "Turtle Beach," Laniakea Beach is one of the best places on Oʻahu to spot Hawaiian green sea turtles. During my visit, seeing these incredible animals resting along the shoreline was one of the most memorable wildlife experiences on the island.
North Shore Scenic Drive
The North Shore offers a completely different side of Oʻahu from what you'll find in Honolulu. I loved spending a day exploring the area's laid-back surf towns, beautiful beaches, and local food stops. Even if you're not a surfer, the scenery alone makes the drive worthwhile.
Byodo-In Temple
Nestled against the lush Koʻolau Mountains, Byodo-In Temple feels like a hidden sanctuary. The peaceful grounds, koi ponds, and mountain views create a tranquil atmosphere that feels worlds away from the busy streets of Waikīkī.
Waikīkī Beach
No first trip to Oʻahu would be complete without spending time at Waikīkī Beach. Whether you're relaxing on the sand, swimming in the calm waters, or watching the sunset with Diamond Head in the distance, it's one of Hawaiʻi's most iconic destinations.
Kawela Bay
Kawela Bay was one of my favorite discoveries on Oʻahu's North Shore. The calm waters and quieter atmosphere make it feel more secluded than many of the island's better-known beaches. It's a beautiful place to slow down and enjoy the natural beauty of the island.
Explore Honolulu after dark
One of the things I love most about Oʻahu is that it offers experiences beyond beaches and outdoor adventures. Spend an evening exploring Waikīkī, enjoying live music, browsing local shops, or discovering some of the island's excellent restaurants and cocktail bars.

Foodland poke bowls at the beach
Steak Shack
Steak Shack quickly became one of my favorite casual meals on Oʻahu. Located just steps from Waikīkī Beach, it's the perfect place to grab a delicious steak plate and enjoy a relaxed beachfront picnic while watching the waves roll in.
Foodland Farms
One of my favorite ways to experience local flavors on Oʻahu is with a fresh poke bowl from Foodland Farms. The poke is incredibly fresh, there are plenty of varieties to choose from, and it's an easy, affordable meal that still feels uniquely Hawaiian.
Waiāhole Poi Factory
Waiāhole Poi Factory was one of my favorite local food experiences on the island. Located on Oʻahu's Windward Coast, the restaurant serves traditional Hawaiian dishes in a laid-back setting and offers a wonderful opportunity to experience authentic local cuisine.
Ray's Kiawe Broiled Chicken
A North Shore institution, Ray's Kiawe Broiled Chicken is well worth the stop while exploring the island's famous coastline. The smoky grilled chicken is simple, flavorful, and a perfect example of why some of Hawaiʻi's best food comes from the most unassuming places.
Seven Brothers
Seven Brothers is one of my favorite stops on the North Shore for a casual lunch or dinner. Known for its delicious burgers and relaxed atmosphere, it's a great place to refuel after a day of beach hopping and exploring.
Duke's Waikīkī
Duke's is one of the most iconic restaurants on Oʻahu and a place I recommend to nearly everyone visiting Waikīkī. The beachfront setting, live music, and laid-back atmosphere perfectly capture the spirit of Hawaiʻi. I especially love stopping by for sunset.
House Without A Key
Located at the historic Halekulani Hotel, House Without A Key offers one of the most romantic dining settings on the island. With ocean views, live Hawaiian music, and hula performances at sunset, it's a wonderful choice for couples celebrating a honeymoon or special occasion.
Monkeypod Kitchen Waikīkī
Monkeypod Kitchen combines fresh island ingredients, handcrafted cocktails, and a lively atmosphere. I love recommending it to travelers looking for a relaxed but elevated dining experience near Waikīkī.
Leonard's Bakery
No trip to Oʻahu feels complete without trying a malasada from Leonard's Bakery. These warm Portuguese-style doughnuts are one of Hawaiʻi's most beloved treats and make for the perfect sweet snack between adventures.
Need to know
Many first-time visitors assume Oʻahu is simply Waikīkī, but one of the things I loved most about the island was how much variety it offers. Within a single day, you can relax on beautiful beaches, hike through lush mountain landscapes, explore cultural sites, and enjoy some of Hawaiʻi's best dining and nightlife.
I highly recommend renting a car for at least a few days during your trip. While Waikīkī is very walkable, many of Oʻahu's most beautiful beaches, scenic viewpoints, and experiences, including Kualoa Ranch, the North Shore, Waimānalo Beach, and Byodo-In Temple, are best reached by car.
If you're planning to visit the North Shore, leave plenty of time to explore. Some of my favorite moments on Oʻahu came from stopping at beaches, local food stands, and scenic viewpoints along the way rather than rushing from one attraction to the next. The island's laid-back North Shore atmosphere feels completely different from the energy of Honolulu.
For travelers visiting between November and April, Oʻahu offers excellent opportunities to watch large winter surf and spot humpback whales offshore. During the summer months, calmer ocean conditions often create ideal snorkeling and swimming opportunities at many of the island's beaches.
Reservations are recommended for popular restaurants and experiences, especially Kualoa Ranch tours and sought-after dinner reservations in Waikīkī. Booking ahead will help ensure you can experience some of the island's most popular attractions during your stay.
Most importantly, don't limit yourself to one part of the island. Oʻahu's greatest strength is the incredible variety it offers. From the vibrant energy of Honolulu and Waikīkī to the relaxed beaches of the North Shore and the lush landscapes of the Windward Coast, every region has its own personality and charm. For honeymooners, that variety creates the perfect balance of adventure, relaxation, and unforgettable experiences.
