A sculpture of words that read: Beautiful Banff.
Curator’s statement

Banff Springs and Lake Louise hold a special place in my heart because they embody the natural beauty and serenity that I cherish. The stunning architecture of the Fairmont Banff Springs Hotel, nestled amid majestic mountains, evokes a sense of timeless elegance, while the crystal-clear waters of Lake Louise, framed by towering peaks, create a picturesque setting that feels almost magical. Wildflowers bloom across the meadows, adding vibrant splashes of color to the scenery. Wildlife is abundant, with opportunities to spot elk, deer and even the occasional bear. The charming town of Banff itself offers delightful shops, cafes and art galleries, making it a perfect place to unwind after a day of exploration.

Day 1: Get settled at the beautiful Fairmont Banff Springs Hotel

Grey hotel building among trees.

Arrive in Banff Springs National Park in Alberta, Canada and check into your accommodation at the stunning Fairmont Banff Springs. After settling in, grab a quick snack and a refreshing cocktail at the Rundle Bar.

Next, set out to stroll along Banff Avenue, taking in the charming local shops, cozy cafes and inspiring art galleries that line the streets.

To wrap up your afternoon, take the Spray River Trail back to your hotel, immersing yourself in the stunning natural scenery along the way. After freshening up, head out for dinner at Chuck’s Steak House, where you can indulge in a delicious meal. I highly recommend trying the table-side Caesar salad—it's a perfect way to kick off your stay in this breathtaking national park!

Day 2: Go on a self-guided canoe outing & hike to spectacular views

An aerial view of a bright blue lake and glacial mountains.

We woke early to savor the full buffet at the Vermillion Room before setting out for the much-anticipated Lake Louise, about a 45-minute drive from the Fairmont Banff Springs.

Thanks to my lunch reservations at Lakeview Lounge, we were able to park at the Fairmont Chateau Lake Louise. Our adventure began with a self-guided canoe outing, allowing us to capture multiple stunning photos against the backdrop of the lake. Afterward, we hiked the Lake Agnes Tea House Trail, approximately 2.2 miles one way, which offered breathtaking views of the lake and a delightful opportunity to enjoy tea at the tea house. This was truly an all-day adventure filled with unforgettable moments.

Later, we returned to Banff to regroup and freshen up before heading Waldhaus Restaurant. There, we enjoyed a warm and inviting atmosphere, perfect for unwinding after a day of exploration.

Day 3: Enjoy panoramic views at the top of Sulphur Mountain

A bright blue lake between snow-capped mountains.

We started the day once again at the Vermillion Room, indulging in the splendid buffet before heading to the on-site e-bike rental facility. After grabbing water, snacks and a backpack, we set off on a self-guided tour along the bike path to Vermilion Lake, covering approximately nine miles and returning via the Banff Springs Legacy Trail.

On our way back, we stopped in town for a quick cocktail at The Banff Avenue Brewing Company. We managed to snag a table outside, and the breathtaking scenery was so captivating that we could have stayed all day! However, we had tickets for the 3 pm Banff Gondola, so we made our way up Sulphur Mountain for panoramic views that were absolutely worth it.

After exploring the summit, we concluded our gondola adventure with a visit to the on-site Waldhaus Pub & Biergarten, where we enjoyed a relaxing drink.

We then hiked back to our room, making a quick stop to admire the beautiful pool area before heading to Bluebird Wood-fired Steakhouse for a memorable dinner. Chef’s kiss! You absolutely must try the key lime pie—it's delightfully tart and creamy, with the perfect balance of sweetness. The buttery crust complements the filling beautifully, making each bite a little piece of heaven.

Day 4: Spend the day on the golf course then soak in natural hot springs

A bright blue lake between snow-capped mountains.

Included in my perks was a daily breakfast for two, which we fully embraced—breakfast in bed became a delightful routine! Each night, we preordered our meal, and every morning, we were greeted by a gentle knock on the door, revealing a culinary delight that ignited our senses, accompanied by a steaming pot of coffee.

We were fortunate to secure a reservation at the stunning Fairmont Banff Springs Golf Course. This course truly exceeded expectations; it’s a breathtaking oasis nestled in the heart of the Canadian Rockies. With dramatic mountain vistas framing every hole, the course blends seamlessly with its natural surroundings. Towering pines and vibrant wildflowers line the fairways, creating a picturesque landscape that evolves with the seasons.

The design of the course is exceptional, featuring rolling hills, sparkling streams and strategically placed bunkers that both challenge players and enhance the scenic beauty. The iconic castle-like architecture of the Fairmont Banff Springs Hotel looms majestically in the distance, adding a touch of elegance and history to the experience. Whether you’re a seasoned golfer or a casual player like me, the beauty of the Fairmont Banff Springs Golf Course offers a remarkable setting that combines sport with the breathtaking splendor of the Rockies, making each round truly unforgettable.

After our round of golf, we opted to drive to the Banff Upper Hot Springs for the ultimate indulgence. Soaking in the warm water while taking in the stunning scenery provided a perfect blend of relaxation and adventure, making the hot springs a true gem in the Canadian Rockies.

For dinner, we dined at the Grizzly House Restaurant, a local institution—if you know, you know! If you don’t, be sure to check it out; it’s an experience you won’t want to miss.

Day 5: Do a little shopping & bid Banff goodbye

A bike in front of a pink and blue cabin.

After our final breakfast in bed, we took one last leisurely tour of the Castle, browsing and window shopping for souvenirs. We wrapped up our visit with some photos by the pool and a quick stop at the market to pick up delicious goodies for the road.

I wholeheartedly recommend the Fairmont Banff Springs, whether in summer or fall. Its mystery and beauty will linger in your memory long after you leave. I do wish we had an extra day to try white-water rafting, explore a local food tour or go horseback riding. Until next time, beautiful Banff!
