Curator’s statement

I have gone to Porto twice and it is such a magical city. It still feels a bit untapped and has an incredible food and wine scene perfect for anyone who is a foodie or wine lover in a city that feels modestly romantic.

A lake with boats and buildings.

Douro Valley Wine Tour - 1.5 hour trip out to Douro, with a boat tour serving light bites and the famous "Porto Tonic" drink, then a guided walk through a few wineries and a home cooked meal in a traditional Portuguese home.

Jardim do Morro - Go here to watch a sunset, bring a bottle of wine from a local shop and enjoy the mix of locals and international travelers gathered for a perfect view. Sometimes, there is live music playing, which sets the perfect tone.

Places to eat & drink in Porto, Portugal

tram passes by outdoor cafe

Taberna Dos Mercadores - Arrive at 5pm when it opens and wait in line for a table. Hot Tip: get a bottle of wine to go at "The Wine Box" and drink it while you wait in line - the octopus rice and seafood porridge is a must!

Caldeireiros - A humble, off-path restaurant serving amazing tapas sized Portuguese seafood focused dishes, with very large pours of very cheap and delicious wine.

Quay Wine Bar - The best view of the river, serving an amazing wine selection and small plates, highly recommend for people watching. Come with a small group as they don't take reservations!

Nata Lisboa - You must try the signature pastry in Portugal called Pasteis de Nata for a custardy mini pie/tart treat, I love them with coffee or as the ending to a nice lunch).

Miss Opo - Delicious food in a cozy atmosphere with a very welcoming staff.

Bacalhau - If you like Cod, this is the place for you. Prepared in many ways, each way unique and with a beautiful view of the river.

Chama - The tasting menu is exciting, as it is all fresh produce found that morning, each dish is a surprise and a welcomed one at that!
