Advisor - Southern Charm in 48 Hours: A Savannah Travel Guide
Curator’s statement

After living in Savannah for four years, it became more than just a destination—it felt like stepping into a slower, more intentional way of life. The city’s charm is in the details: moss-draped oaks, hidden squares, and the way history and everyday life blend so effortlessly. It’s a place where you can spend hours simply wandering and discovering something new each time, whether it’s a tucked-away café or a story behind a centuries-old home. Savannah holds a unique kind of magic—one that makes you want to linger a little longer and come back again.

Things to do in Savannah

North Beach Lighthouse

Head out to Tybee Island for the day

A day trip to Tybee is the perfect coastal escape from downtown Savannah—laid-back, breezy, and full of that classic beach town charm. Make time to visit the Tybee Lighthouse, one of the most iconic spots on the island, and climb to the top if you’re up for incredible views of the coast. If you want to make the day even more memorable, rent kayaks and paddle out through the waterways toward the historic Cockspur Island Lighthouse—it’s such a unique way to experience the area from the water and adds a little adventure to a beach day.

Go on a port tour

It's truly impressive seeing Savannah Port up close from the water. Pulling up alongside the massive container ships really puts into perspective just how active and important this port is—it’s one of the busiest in the country. What I love most is learning the history behind it all while cruising through the waterways; it gives you a whole new appreciation for Savannah as a working coastal city, not just a historic destination.

Cocktail hour at rooftop bars

There’s nothing like golden hour over the river with a drink in hand. Savannah’s rooftop scene is relaxed but elevated, making it perfect for sunset views, people-watching, and winding down after a day of exploring.

Walk around Plant Riverside District

This area always has something going on, no matter when you visit. During the holidays, it transforms into a Christmas market, and, throughout the year, you might stumble into live music, events, or even the fun wiener dog races. Even just walking through the JW Marriott Savannah Plant Riverside District lobby is worth it—it’s one of the most visually impressive spaces in the city.

Stroll through Forsyth Park

Forsyth is the heart of Savannah and the perfect place to slow down and soak in the city’s charm—oak trees, fountains, and locals just enjoying everyday life. A great way to start your visit is brunch at The Collins Quarter at Forsyth right by the park. If you’re there on a Saturday, don’t miss the morning farmers market where you can browse local vendors, grab fresh bites, and really feel part of the community.

Catch a Savannah Bananas game

Having worked with the Bananas, I can confidently say game days are absolutely electric. It’s not just baseball—it’s entertainment from start to finish, with music, dancing, and nonstop energy. It’s genuinely fun for the whole family, and one of those experiences that ends up being a core memory no matter your age and regardless of whether you’re a “sports person."

Places to eat & drink in Savannah

Springtime at The Wyld

The Wyld Dock Bar

A true local favorite right on the water with a laid-back coastal vibe. The menu is seasonal and always features unique, fresh dishes that make it feel like a hidden gem outside the downtown scene.

The Vault

Set inside a former bank, this spot has a unique, historic atmosphere with a stylish twist. It’s perfect for cocktails and a more intimate dining experience.

The Collins Quarter at Forsyth

A go-to brunch and lunch spot right on Forsyth Park with a bright, elevated café feel. It’s perfect for sitting outside, people-watching, and easing into a Savannah morning.

Vic’s on the River

A classic Savannah dining experience right on the river with beautiful views and Southern-inspired dishes. It’s especially great around sunset for a full atmosphere moment.

The Peregrin

A rooftop bar with incredible skyline and river views, perfect for sunset cocktails. The vibe is modern, chic, and very Savannah at golden hour.

Zunzi’s

A local favorite known for bold, flavorful sandwiches with a South African twist. It’s fast, casual, and absolutely packed with personality.

Bar Julian

A stylish rooftop spot with great cocktails and one of the best views in the city. It’s ideal for pre-dinner drinks or a relaxed night out overlooking Savannah.

Need to know

One of the best local tips is to do trivia night at Service Brewing Co. on Wednesdays—it’s a fun, low-key way to experience the local scene, and it always draws a good crowd.

The best times to visit are spring and fall when the weather is mild, the city is walkable, and everything feels lively without the peak summer heat and humidity.

Downtown Savannah Historic District is extremely walkable, so a rental car really isn’t necessary unless you’re planning day trips outside the city.

And one of the most unique things about Savannah—you can grab drinks to go in the historic district and walk around with them, which makes bar-hopping and sunset strolls even better.
