Curator’s statement
The Dominican Republic’s identity is not found on an anonymous all-inclusive sun lounger; it is carved into the ancient coralline limestone of America’s first European city and hidden in the wild, coconut-fringed cliffs of Samaná. This journey is a masterclass in slow travel, intentionally curated for travelers who practice clean living and seek to align their physical wellness with the authentic pulse of Hispaniola. We begin in Santo Domingo’s Zona Colonial, where five centuries of Afro-Taíno and Spanish history echo through cobblestone alleyways. From there, we cross the island to the Samaná Peninsula—a sanctuary where emerald rainforests spill into a pristine sea, and the air carries the rhythm of wild Atlantic surf. I invite you to travel with deep intent, engage in active restoration, and witness the rugged, soulful heart of the Caribbean.

Days 1–2: The walled city, colonial shadows & the drum

Your journey begins in Santo Domingo's Zona Colonial, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Spend your first morning on a mindful walking exploration of the historic adoquines (cobblestones). Walk down Calle Las Damas, the oldest paved street in the New World, to witness the coralline limestone façade of the Alcázar de Colón. Step inside the dark, heavy stone walls of Fortaleza Ozama to feel the weight of early transatlantic history.
As the afternoon sun softens, your private guide will introduce you to the vibrant urban murals of the Santa Bárbara neighborhood, showcasing how local youth use art as a tool of cultural resistance. End the day catching the golden hour at Plaza de España, where the Atlantic breeze carries the faint rhythm of local instruments.
The capital's culinary map
The morning ritual: Fuel your body with small-batch, single-origin Dominican coffee at Affogato Café or Café El Conde.
The honest plate: For lunch, skip the commercial plazas and settle in at El Conuco or Jalao for an authentic, nutrient-rich La Bandera Dominicana (stewed beans, rice, and protein), paired with perfectly crisp, hand-mashed tostones.
Creative gastronomy: Experience dinner inside a candlelit 16th-century courtyard at Buche Perico, where contemporary open-fire cooking turns ancestral Dominican ingredients into fine-dining art.
Midnight sips: Enjoy a custom rum-tasting experience overlooking the illuminated ruins of San Francisco at Sugar Cane, La Casa del Ron.
Days 3–4: The journey north, deep wall diving & the seven hidden beaches

On day three, your private driver will escort you north via the Highway of the Northeast. Break up the drive with an authentic stop at the legendary Típico Bonao. Even for the dedicated clean-living traveler, their freshly squeezed local passion fruit juice and artisanal roasted coffee are an essential rite of passage into the island's interior hospitality. As the karst mountain formations of Samaná emerge, you will feel the air shift to a slower, marine rhythm.
Before checking into your coastal oasis, board a private boat charter to Los Haitises National Park. This is a spiritual descent into an untouched, prehistoric ecosystem. Glide through quiet mangrove canals and towering limestone karsts. Step inside Cueva de la Arena and Cueva de la Línea to stand in total stillness before sacred pre-Columbian Taíno petroglyphs—a silent, visceral archive of our ancestors.
Day four is dedicated to intense connection with the elements. For certified divers, we arrange an exclusive excursion to the walls of Cabo Cabrón with Las Galeras Divers. Dropping down to a crystal-clear depth of 120 feet, this vertical marine wall offers an awe-inspiring look at pristine coral systems and deep Atlantic visibility.
Non-divers will embark on the Seven Hidden Beaches (Siete Playas Escondidas) trek—a moderate, two-hour guided coastal hike through wild, untouched jungle paths opening onto secret, deserted coves from Las Galeras to Playa Colorada. Conclude your physical exertion at the rustic open-air shacks of La Playita for a late lunch. Order the classic Pescado al Coco (freshly caught fish poached in local coconut milk), the ultimate clean, mineral-dense island fuel.
Days 5–6: The restorative falls, wild cliffs & the farewell

Awaken at dawn for a morning self-guided yoga flow on the panoramic open-air, allowing the rainforest's morning mist to ground your intentions. Today, we experience water as medicine.
To honor your body and the land, we skip the commercial horse rides and conquer the trail to the spectacular El Limón Waterfall strictly on foot. This 40-minute cardio hike challenges your core through muddy jungle paths and pure river crossings, rewarding you with a swim in the ice-cold, deeply restorative emerald basin of the 130-foot cascade.
Spend your final afternoon at the remote edge of the peninsula in Las Galeras. A private boat takes you to Playa Frontón, an otherworldly beach flanked by a massive, vertical 300-foot marble cliff face. The highly oxygenated, protected reef waters offer an incredible underwater canvas for snorkeling.
On your final evening in Las Terrenas, dine at a candlelit, open-air beachfront bistro, listening to the distant cadence of bachata and the steady hum of the Atlantic surf saying its final adiós.
Need to know
The power of politeness: In our culture, leading with a warm, sincere "¡Buenas!" or "Saludos" when entering any local space opens every door. Respect is our primary currency.
Pacing and rugged terrain: The historic cobblestones of the capital and the spiky coralline limestone of Playa Frontón require proper, closed-toe trail footwear. Protect your ankles.
The cash ecosystem: While luxury enclaves are entirely card-friendly, local boat captains, dive guides, and rustic beach shacks require cash (Dominican Pesos, DOP). I will ensure your cash logistics are organized pre-departure.
Sun and reef preservation: Out of respect for our marine ecosystems, please pack exclusively mineral-based, reef-friendly sun protection.
Logistics note: The mountain routes into Samaná feature steep inclines and unpredictable scooter traffic. For a seamless, stress-free transition, allow me to coordinate a professional private driver.
