Things to do in Singapore

CHIJMES
Once a historic convent, CHIJMES is now a beautifully restored lifestyle complex featuring striking Gothic architecture and tranquil courtyards. It’s perfect for a leisurely stroll, a stylish meal, or evening drinks under the lights. Free to enter and open to all, CHIJMES blends historic charm with modern vibrance through its mix of boutique restaurants, cafés, and live music venues. Scroll down for some of my favorite dining spots.
Fun fact: scenes from Crazy Rich Asians were filmed here—it’s as cinematic as it is serene.
Chinatown
A vibrant blend of heritage and modern life, Chinatown features ornate temples, colorful shophouses, and bustling markets. Today, it’s also home to trendy cafés and restaurants tucked between historic buildings—perfect for a midday break. Scroll down for a few of my favorite spots.
Natureland Massage (Various Locations)
Whether you’re in need of a quick midday reset or winding down after a long day, Natureland offers professional massages at an affordable price. With branches across major shopping malls, it’s known for clean facilities, skilled therapists, and last-minute availability. A solid wellness stop any time of day.
Gardens by the Bay (Light Show)
Catch the nightly Garden Rhapsody at Supertree Grove—a spectacular sound and light show set against Singapore’s iconic vertical gardens. The grounds are equally impressive by day, with lush landscaping and plenty of photo-worthy views amid the futuristic architecture. Check their event page for seasonal themes, special performances, and updated showtimes to plan your visit.
Marina Bay Sands Light & Water Show
Spectra is a free nightly light and water show at Marina Bay Sands, featuring lasers, fountains, and music in a stunning 15-minute display. Shows run at 8:00 pm and 9:00 pm daily, with an extra 10:00 pm showing on Fridays and Saturdays. It’s a great pick for a romantic evening or a family-friendly outing. For the full experience, enjoy a meal at one of the many waterfront restaurants before the show.
Places to eat & drink in Singapore

Maxwell Food Centre (Chinatown)
Maxwell Food Centre is one of Singapore’s most iconic hawker centers—perfect for experiencing authentic local flavors at great value. From satay to Hainanese chicken rice, the variety is impressive, and the atmosphere is always buzzing with locals and travelers alike. It's worth trying traditional desserts like chendol—a refreshing mix of pandan jelly, coconut milk, and palm sugar syrup—or cooling off with a cup of freshly pressed sugarcane juice.
New Ubin Seafood (CHIJMES)
Tucked inside the atmospheric CHIJMES complex, New Ubin Seafood serves up local zi char cuisine: Singapore’s beloved “cook and fry” dining style. Expect bold, wok hei–infused flavors with highly recommended dishes like chilli crab and Boss Bee Hoon (wok-fried rice noodles). It’s a true Singaporean flavor adventure, perfect for sharing over a lively, casual meal in a charming historic spot.
Maxi Coffee Bar (Chinatown)
A chic, minimalist café in the heart of Chinatown, Maxi Coffee Bar is known for its excellent coffee and vibrant energy—especially on weekends when it’s buzzing. It’s a great spot for a morning pick-me-up or a midday break. Don’t miss their heavenly kaya butter toast—a rich, warm twist on a beloved Singaporean classic.
Butter TGT (Chinatown)
Tucked away in Chinatown, Butter TGT is a hidden gem that blends stylish interiors with a creative café menu. Known for its specialty brews and inventive bakes, it’s a cozy hideout for café hoppers looking for something a little different. You won't regret ordering their made-to-order madeleines—freshly baked, buttery, and perfect with a cup of coffee.
Bacha Coffee (multiple locations)
Step into old-world elegance at Bacha Coffee, a Moroccan-inspired café known for its opulent interiors—arched doorways and gold accents that instantly transport you to Marrakech. With over 200 premium Arabica blends across several Singapore locations, it’s a dream for coffee lovers. On the go? Their beautifully packaged takeaway coffee and croissant combo is a delight. Order the kaya-flavored croissant and thank me later.
Jigger & Pony (Chinatown)
An award-winning cocktail bar that masterfully blends classic recipes with contemporary creativity. Consistently ranked among Asia’s best, it offers a warm, welcoming atmosphere perfect for unwinding. The Basil Smash cocktail was one of my personal favorites—a refreshing standout in a thoughtfully curated menu.
Mama Diam
A playful speakeasy disguised as an old-school convenience store, Mama Diam surprises with nostalgic drinks and locally inspired bites. Step through the retro storefront into a cozy bar that celebrates Singaporean flavors with a fun, modern twist. Be sure to try their Chai Tarik Brew (cocktail)—a bold reinterpretation of the classic local Chai tea—and the Chicken Curry Kueh Pie Tee, a flavor bomb featuring a crisp, delicate shell filled with fragrant curried chicken and creamy coconut. A great spot for those who love hidden gems with personality.
Need to know
Fun fact: At hawker centers, it’s common to reserve your seat before ordering. Just place a packet of tissues (or any small item) on the table. It’s a uniquely Singaporean habit known as "chope"!
