Day 1: Welcome to Uganda

Upon arrival at Entebbe International Airport, take time to relax and settle into Uganda's warm and welcoming atmosphere. Check into your hotel and enjoy a leisurely afternoon exploring the shores of Lake Victoria, Africa's largest lake. I recommend visiting the Entebbe Botanical Gardens or enjoying a sunset lakeside dinner featuring fresh local cuisine. For a smooth start to your journey, exchange some local currency, purchase a local SIM card if needed, and get a good night's rest before beginning your adventure through the Pearl of Africa.

Day 2: Journey to Bwindi & into the heart of gorilla country

After breakfast, take a scenic domestic flight or road transfer to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park, home to nearly half of the world's remaining mountain gorillas. The journey itself is part of the experience, offering breathtaking views of rolling hills, lush tea plantations, and rural Ugandan villages.

Upon arrival, settle into your lodge and spend the afternoon relaxing while enjoying spectacular forest views and learning about the region's unique wildlife and conservation efforts. I recommend an early night, as tomorrow's gorilla trekking adventure begins early and requires both energy and enthusiasm.

Day 3: Gorilla trekking in Bwindi

Face-to-face with Uganda's majestic mountain gorillas in Bwindi.

Today is the highlight of your Ugandan adventure: mountain gorilla trekking in Bwindi Impenetrable National Park. After an early morning briefing by experienced park rangers, set off into the dense rainforest in search of a habituated gorilla family. The trek can take anywhere from a couple of hours to most of the day, but the reward is extraordinary—spending a precious hour observing these gentle giants in their natural habitat. Be sure to wear sturdy hiking boots, long sleeves, and carry plenty of water.

This unforgettable wildlife experience offers not only incredible photo opportunities but also a deeper appreciation for conservation efforts protecting one of the world's most endangered species.

Traveler tips & important information

  • Uganda is a year-round destination, but the best wildlife viewing and gorilla trekking conditions are typically during the drier months, from June to September and December to February.

  • Gorilla trekking permits are limited and should be booked well in advance to secure your preferred dates.

  • Travelers are encouraged to pack lightweight clothing, a waterproof jacket, sturdy hiking boots, insect repellent, and a good camera.

  • While English is widely spoken, learning a few local greetings is always appreciated.

  • Most importantly, come prepared for authentic experiences, warm hospitality, and some of Africa's most breathtaking landscapes and wildlife encounters.
