Curator’s statement
St. Lucia holds a special place in my heart because it feels like two completely different worlds wrapped into one unforgettable island—vibrant, lively, and full of culture in the north, yet peaceful, scenic, and soul-stirring in the south. The Harbor Bay area, especially, gave me a sense of connection to the local community with its music, food, and everyday life unfolding right outside the resort. Exploring both sides of the island made the trip feel deeply personal and meaningful, offering both adventure and moments of true calm. It’s a destination that stays with you long after you’ve left.

Things to do on Saint Lucia

Visit the Pitons & Sugar Beach (South): These iconic volcanic peaks make up one of the most photographed areas in the Caribbean. Spend the day relaxing at Sugar Beach between the Pitons or enjoy a scenic boat ride for unbeatable views.
Sulphur springs & mud baths (South): The world’s only “drive-in volcano” offers rejuvenating volcanic mud baths and steamy natural springs. It’s messy, relaxing, and a total bucket-list experience.
Snorkeling at Anse Chastanet (South): One of the island’s best snorkeling spots with crystal-clear water, coral reefs, and abundant marine life. Great for beginners and experienced snorkelers alike.
Catamaran cruise around the island: A scenic way to see St. Lucia from the water—enjoy turquoise views, swimming stops, snorkeling, and a relaxing sail along both coasts.
Pigeon Island National Park (North): Hike historical trails, visit old military forts, and take in panoramic views of Rodney Bay and the coastline. A perfect mix of light adventure and sightseeing.
Shop & dine around Harbor Bay (North): Enjoy local boutiques, marina dining, bakeries, and weekend live music. It’s the ideal way to experience northern St. Lucia’s culture and everyday charm.

7th Heaven: A must for weekend brunch, offering a lively atmosphere and great flavors.
Dockside Pizzeria: A casual, delicious stop steps from Harbor Bay—perfect after a beach day.

The ultimate St. Lucia travel guide: Featuring Harbor Bay Resort as your home base
St. Lucia is an island that feels like two destinations in one—the lively, culture-rich north and the lush, luxurious, adventure-forward south. This guide helps you navigate both regions with Harbor Bay Resort as your starting point, giving you a clear sense of what to expect, how to get around, and where to eat, shop, and explore.
Arriving in St. Lucia
St. Lucia has two airports on opposite ends of the island, and this plays a major role in planning:
UVF (Hewanorra International Airport): Located in the far south. Most major flights land here.
SLU (George F. L. Charles Airport): Located in the north, mainly for regional Caribbean flights.
From UVF to the northern resort areas—Rodney Bay, Gros Islet, and Harbor Bay—the drive is only 19 miles but can take up to two hours due to narrow, winding roads, potholes, and mountain terrain. Driving is best left to professional or local drivers, and many travelers prefer ferry or private/group boat transfers, which are not faster but far more scenic, calmer, and less stressful.
Northern St. Lucia vibes
The north side is known for:
Beautiful beaches (Rodney Bay, Gros Islet, Cap Estate, Reduit Beach, Castries area)
Friday Night Street Party in Gros Islet
Local markets & shopping malls
Abundant beachfront resorts
Great sunset viewing points
Easy access to day trips, water activities, and night entertainment
If you enjoy city energy, culture, dining variety, and nightlife, this is your side of the island.
What the South is known for
The iconic Pitons
Sugar Beach (between the Pitons)
The sulphur springs & volcanic mud baths
Waterfalls, botanical gardens & hiking
Luxury resorts like Viceroy Sugar Beach
More remote beaches such as Anse Chastanet
The south feels like its own island—slower, greener, more secluded, and perfect for romance, wellness, and high-end escapes.
Tips for travelers
Expect “island time”: Service is friendly and warm, but not fast-paced. Relax and enjoy the rhythm of St. Lucia.
Many excursions & shops close on Sundays and Mondays: Plan for beach or resort days when the island slows down.
Choose transportation wisely: Roads are winding and best handled by locals. Boats are scenic, safe, and a great alternative—even if not quicker.
Perfect itinerary idea
Split your stay:
Three days up north for culture, nightlife & beaches
Three days down south for nature, adventure & luxury
This lets you enjoy the full St. Lucia experience with ease.
Airport planning matters
Depending on where you stay, your advisor will book the ideal arrival or departure airport.
